Chapter #3

Snowy Landing

by: evil dude Author IconMail Icon
You finished off the last of your second beer as you did one final check up to make sure you were ready for the drop off. You were currently cruising at a smooth altitude of around 10,000 feet over a sea of treetops as your pilot buddy headed for your destination. The job had come in at the last minute from a powerful drug kingpin who stood to lose a whole shipment of his product and some of his best runners if someone didn't arrive to bail their asses out of their predicament soon.

Luckily, you were just close enough that a quick trip up north gave you a good chance of salvaging the situation, though it wouldn't be an easy job with all the cops around. In addition to a suit of proper combat armor and your best rifle you had brought along some flares, a canteen of water, your prized bowie knife and a silenced pistol, along with a few other emergency supplies like matches and a radio. You also brought a stun gun and cable ties in case you needed to go the nonlethal route.

"Hey Jeff, I put out the call to our contact with the cops, he'll keep em' distracted on the ski resort while I drop you off about a mile or two away near the road." a loud voice said over the loudspeaker. "Be ready to jump in five minutes, we'll only get one shot at this." As the voice shut off you equipped your parachute and backpack and headed over to the rear of the plane as the pilot slowed his descent over the trees.

After a few minutes the hatch opened up, letting in a flurry of snowflakes as you prepared for the jump. The bright lights of the ski lodge cut through the inky black sky and pointed treetops like a knife surrounded by the glittering flicker of blue and red lights. "Go ahead and aim for the hill up ahead, those boys likely won't be able to hold out for too much longer. Good luck out there!" the pilot announced as you made the leap and soared towards the abandoned ranger outpost sitting at the top of a nearby hillside.

With a quick flick of the wrist you unleashed your parachute and drifted softly towards your target. The lights of the ski resort slowly faded from sight as you brushed past a tall pine tree and landed firmly on solid ground. After taking a moment to reorient yourself you pushed past some snow covered bushes and began climbing the rickety wooden stairs of the long forgotten ranger outpost. When you got to the top you then pulled out a pair of binoculars and walked over to the flimsy railing and tried to get a good look at the resort.

It was hard to make out any human figures, but the front of the parking lot was swarming with police cars and SWAT vans, not a good sign. "Let's hope by the time I get there I find something worth saving." you whisper as your breath chilled to fog in front of you. After scoping out the layout of the building you took a few minutes to come up with a plan of action that could effectively deal with the situation.
