You catch up with Kate after class. "Can you tell me who it was that dropped out?"
"Why do you want to know that?" she asks, obviously not wanting to tell you.
"I want to find out why she dropped out." you say. "I think I should know what's so bad about this camp before I agree to go."
"Okay." she says reluctantly. "It was Wendy."
You don't get a chance to talk to Wendy until lunch time.
"Hi Wendy." you greet her.
"Hi Stephen." she responds. "What's up."
"I heard you dropped out of Child Care." you say getting straight to the point.. "Why?"
"At the start of the year Mrs Collins told us that the 6 girls with the worst marks would have to volunteer to pretend to be babies for her camp." she explains. "So the others can practice taking care of them."
"I know." you say. "She's asked me to replace you."
"Oh. Really?" you find her surprise less than genuine.
"What is so bad about the camp that you'll accept failing the whole unit to get out of it?" you ask.
"Just what you know already." she says. "You have to act like a baby and let the others take care of you."
"It sounds embarrassing." you agree. "But embarrassing enough that you'd fail the unit to avoid it?"
"Ashleigh and Deborah have been teasing me." she explains. "They already called me a baby because I brought a teddy-bear to school at the start of the year. Since they found out I had to act like a baby on the camp it's gotten worse. I just know that they would go out of their way to make it really embarrassing for me."
