Three weeks since the beginning of the semester and the ever optimistic Megan Porter was actually feeling a bit down in the dumps. The first day had gone so well, her students had even been nice enough to bring her treats on her first day. Since then, more and more students seemed to be dropping her art course every day. She had come in every day always enthusiastic about who or whatever the subject du jour was, but sadly her class just didn’t seem to share the same spark for the art world, they were much more interested in their texting than stylistic shading of Rembrandt’s Night Watch.
Now, as she sat in her teacher’s cabin twirling a long lock of her curly blonde hair, she brainstormed over ways to make classic art more interesting. She puzzled over things a bit and decided it was time for some hands on interaction!
“Good morning!” She began early the next Monday, bright and perky as always. A grumbling and mumbling drone of “Hello’s ” and “Good Mornings” slowly answered back. “Okay! Class, I was hoping that for our next lesson, we could shake things up a bit. So if things go well this week, I’ll even let you vote on what you want to learn about next week. Sound good?” Asked Ms. Porter much more bright eyed and bushy tailed than the average person on a Monday morning.
This had perked up quite a few girls eye’s away from their cell phone screens, and a small twitter of agreement filled the room. “Perfect!” exclaimed Ms. Porter clapping her hands together in delight. “Now, this week our lesson will be on…”
