John had enough time to register the absurdity of finding his Transformers shirt and denim shorts replaced by "girly" clothes. He was just about to turn red in the cheeks and feel embarrassed when, next thing he knew, he was even taller! He could see the other side of the store across the aisles of clothes. There he spotted the counter, and behind it a woman in a pretty green dress with brown, waist-length hair and a knowing smile.
"I see you like our office wear, Miss," she said, looking at him. "Would you like to keep it on while we ring you up?"
"Miss?" John asked. His voice went higher than it should have, and he still had two years before puberty proper! "What did you do?"
He looked down. Boobs! The lumps his friends snickered about - they said his mom had really big ones - stretched the lacy bra so it tickled his armpits. A button on the blouse had popped open, so he saw the crack between the boobs and a peek of lilac fabric. He couldn't feel his wiener, and forgetting he was in public (his mom told him not too touch it all through his fourth year), he grabbed his crotch. Nothing; empty. Air tickled the tighter underwear from underneath the skirt.
With all the craning around, checking out and feeling his body, red hair spilled out in front of him and nearly reached his belly. He batted it away and found it swung from his head. John turned to the right and came face-to-face in a mirror with his new adult self: a brilliant, redhead woman with tiny scoops for shoulders and boulders for a chest. She carried herself like an older woman - it might have been the pumps - but the freckles brought out her green eyes and screamed, "Forever Twenty-One!"
The store attendant had left the counter and stepped behind John. "Are you okay, Miss?"
"I'm not a Miss!" John yelled. "I'm ten years old! My name is John; my friends call me Johnny! I like Call of Duty and Spongebob and chocolate ice cream... I'm not a lady!" He fought back the tears. Even as a lady, he wasn't going to cry, no matter what!
