Obsidian (Unrefined)
A pitch-black, glassy rock that emits a chilling radiance. Drains magic and energy from its surroundings. As such it is used to shackle wizards and demons, as well as forge anti-magic weapons and trinkets. The mere presence of obsidian is painful and draining to a wizard. It is rumoured that the Church has entire prisons constructed from obsidian.
In addition to draining magic, obsidian will pull in any untethered souls from its surroundings, trapping them within it forever. Is feared greatly by Light Order wizards as their physical bodies fade.

Refined Obsidian/Soulstones
Obsidian that has been purified. These chunks of translucent, pearly rock can hold a soul and unlike their impure counterpart, release it again. Once inside a soulstone, a soul may be released into a new body or used as a source of power.

Activated Obsidian
Obsidian that has been pulverized and heated. Will forcefully strip souls from bodies but unable to contain them itself, will cause them to randomly reassert themselves into nearby vessels. Has the effect of randomly body swapping anything in its vicinity.

THE END.
