The thief was always watching, you didn’t last long in this business if you weren’t because everyone was after you so it didn’t take her long to realize someone was following her. A group of robed figures was keeping a good distance from her but they were easy to spot in this desolate land. There was the possibility they were just traveling in the same direction as she was but she dismissed the idea when she took a couple of out of the way side trails and they followed.
Seras moved to a good vantage point so she could get a good look at them to decide her next course of action. They were traveling on horses which would give them a great deal of speed over her but a poor choice of animal in this dry land. She could get away from them by going over a particularly barren stretch of land and it also gave her hope that the people following her were novices for choosing horses.
It was always tempting to confront the people following you but they outnumbered her and the lack of knowledge didn’t mean that they weren’t great fighters. For the moment she decided to stay on her path and let them follow. The bright sun allowed her to view them with ease at a great distance but it would also prevent her from sneaking up on them to discover more so she would have to wait until dark to do her investigating.
The people didn’t have any symbols that she could see through her spyglass so she put it away and continued on her journey. The questions of who they were would plague her mind until she got away from them or got the answers she was looking for. They could be from the King but why would he send them? Could it be a possible rival or one of her guild trying to betray her? Or one of the people she had taken money from over the years trying to take revenge?
No one said the life of a thief was easy but if you could make it out you could retire as one of the rich, the trick was picking the right time. You had to make enough to survive upon before you made too many of the wrong enemies.
