The ranch which has been in your family for at least four or five generations is pretty much in the middle of nowhere miles from any sign of civilization....hence the decline of the ranch. The closest city is twenty miles away and the land is almost treeless. The ranch consists of two barns and a very large three-story house. The house has electity but no TV. You bought a radio and a flat screen TV. You're short money for the moment.
Your first day at the ranch is spent cleaning the house since it hasn't been lived in for a good thirty years. Throughout the day you feel like someone is definitely watching you but there's no sign of anyone around.....nothing human that is. You're cleaning up mostly spider webs and layers of dust. The house does have a cellar that is accessed through a slanting door not too far from the house just like any storm cellar. The cellar contains three rooms; One seems to be a living area and the other two rooms are small bedrooms with nothing but a short stack of hay for bedding. There's nothing much in the cellar but a surprisingly amount of manure. The only animals around are horses as far as you can tell....but why would the cellar have manure in it? You decide to focus on the house today and deal with the cellar and the barns another day.
Since nobody has lived on the ranch it's naturally overgrown with grass and trees....in fact the house was hard to find because of all the trees around it.
As evening approaches you're totally exhausted having worked all day so you collapse onto the couch in the living room and fell asleep.
You wake sometime later with a start. It's night and the living room is dark. The room does contain four working lamps but they're all off since you fell asleep in the daytime. Some sixth sense tells you that something woke you. As your eyes adjust to the dark you see you're not alone in the room. A horse is standing at the entrance to the room. The first thing you notice is that the horse is standing on its hind feet like a human. It's too dark to tell any features.
"Hi there" you say. "I'm....Gregory. And you ......how did you get in here?"
