Twilight said to her friends, "Well, we spent a few days considering her options. I made charts with the pros and cons of each one and modified for the severity of each factor of course. And I made sure to thoroughly research each one, because I didn't want her to make a decision based on a knee-jerk bias over objective-"
"TWILIGHT!" Rarity and Applejack both interrupted in unison as the unicorn started to ramble, snapping her out of it.
She sheepishly smiled and continued, "R-right. Well, eventually, she decided that as much as she would like to prove her loyalty to the princesses directly, she was worried that getting too close to the capitol would cause political problems from those who think she should have been punished more severely. Celestia and Luna vouching for her would go a long way, but would also make some ponies raise questions about the fairness of their decisions.
She still wants to prove that she wants to help everypony, though, so she decided to apply for a law-enforcement job in another city. By enforcing Equestrian law far away from the princesses, she hopes to prove that she doesn't have any desire to take the throne again, and build a reputation that'll eventually overshadow... everything everypony remembers about Nightmare Moon..."
Applejack put a hoof on Twilight's shoulder as the purple unicorn's voice broke slightly. "Ah, it'll be okay, Sugarcube. Ah can't wrap mah head around all that politics mumbo-jumbo, but it sounds lahk y'all've put a lot o' thought into it. That gal's got her head screwed on right, so ah'm sure it'll work out."
"Indeed," Rarity said supportively. "Though with Sweetie Belle in Canterlot and Apple Bloom and Twist staying here in Ponyville, I imagine you must be so worried about her being lonely."
Twilight perked up a little, thanks to her friends and their kind words. "Actually, Nyx and Scootaloo will be going together. You know how she is about pursuing a serious racing and stunt career, so they arranged to go to the same city."
"Oh, that's MARVELOUS," Rarity exclaimed.
Applejack chuckled. "Yeah, ah can just imagine the trouble THOSE two'll get into on their own, but at least they'll have each other." She looked toward the game being played and arched an eyebrow so high that it raised the brim of her hat. "Speakin' of trouble, what the hay is Pinkie Pie doin'?"
Nyx had apparently decided to play a little joke on the pink earth pony, holding her upside-down with her magic and levitating books to act as a 'floor' while Pinkie walked toward the pony drawing on the wall, seemingly oblivious to the inversion of gravity while the little Crusaders laughed wildly and cheered her on. And yet, when she reached the wall, Pinkie somehow managed to pin the tail exactly on the X anyway, drawing gasps not just from the kids, but from Twilight and the other parents and guardians at the party.
As Nyx flipped Pinkie around to place her back on the real floor, the alicorn's jaw was hanging open. "HOW did you do that?" she asked, honestly astonished while Pinkie pulled off the blindfold.
"Oh, that's easy, you just have to HUUAAAAAAAGH!" Everyone present was startled by the earth pony's sudden gasp as she pointed toward the front windows. "Look out, there's a giant Ursa Major coming and it's gonna step on the library!!!" This suddenly threw everyone into a panic, though Twilight and Nyx were the first to throw themselves into action, both of them bursting out the front door, their horns glowing with magic! Neither was going to let anypony to come to harm on their watch, though perhaps they should have noticed more quickly that they hadn't heard or felt any of the telltale signs of such an enormous creature stomping through town. As a result, what they did see took them completely by surprise.
Mere moments after stepping out of the library, the sky exploded in a burst of fireworks that backlit Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy as they held up a banner reading "GOOD LUCK, CUTIE MARK CRUSADERS!" Fluttershy's end dipped lower as she reflexively cringed from the loud noises, but she kept it aloft anyway.
Spike, who was down between the two pegasi, grinned and waved before setting off a wave of fireworks with a puff of dragon fire. All the little ponies and their parents rushed outside to gawk as rockets and streamers flew up into the air, exploding in colorful blossoms of fire. "Oh my gosh, this is perfect," Scootaloo exclaimed, taking the opportunity to show off by whipping out her scooter. Upgraded and adjusted over the past few years, she used her wings to give her a quick boost of speed and launch herself up a small rise in the road like a ramp.
Wanting to help her friend, Nyx launched herself up into the air to intercept Scootaloo, pushing up under the bottom of the pegasus pony's scooter to give her an extra boost. Hooves clapped together wildly as she flipped around in the air, capping the highest tip of a bright, star-shaped explosion, then getting a high-five from Rainbow Dash at the apex of the arc. The sound of her fanfillyish squeal on the way down could be heard even over the pops and bangs of the display as Dash and Nyx flew underneath Scootaloo to bring her back down to the ground with her held aloft like a celebrity.
Down on the ground, the two pairs of sisters sat next to each other, ooohing and ahhhing at the impromptu display of showmanship.
When Nyx made it back to her mother, Twilight laughed and said, "I can't believe you pulled that off on the spur of the moment!"
Nyx laughed as well, leaning down to nuzzle Twilight. "I can't believe you set up all these fireworks for us. I love you so much, mom."
Twilight was actually as surprised as anyone else, but decided not to say so as she nuzzled back. Her horn lit up with magic as she formed an image in her mind, then cast a spell to shoot it up into the sky. A fond memory from when Nyx was just a little filly, the two of them with Spike and Owlowicious sitting around a storybook. This image then spread out, bringing all of their friends and family into a tapestry that spread across the sky.
"I love you too, Nyx. So much.
------------
The next day, everyone big tearful goodbyes and well wishes to their friends and loved ones. Nyx made a Pinkie Pie promise to write home every week before she and Scootaloo got on the train that would take them to their destination. They both leaned out the window, waving as the train started to chug along out of the station.
Scootaloo could barely contain her excitement as she sat down, bouncing on her seat. "I can't believe it. We're doing this! We're REALLY doing this! Nyx, this is gonna be the best time of our LIVES!"
Nyx giggled, smiling fondly as she watched Ponyville slowly vanish over the horizon. "Eh... I'd be fine with second best."
They were on their way to...
===============
1. Appleoosa. It's grown into a boom town with a newly built racetrack, and Nyx can learn about frontier justice from the sheriff.
2. Manehattan. The big city is bound to be full of wonders, and could surely use another friendly neighborhood policemare.
3. Las Pegasus. A hotspot of entertainment, tourism, and absolutely no organized crime! Nope, just look somewhere else!
4. Fillydelphia. Current record holder for highest windspeed in a hurricane. The area's a bit of a disaster magnet.
