Makayla is walking over to a neighbor’s h...

It’s early on a summer weekend day when pretty little Makayla heads off on foot to a friend’s house several blocks away. Her Mom is working, and Graham enjoying a late morning before he goes off to do something (Makayla doesn’t really care). She’s glad that she’ll have the house to herself later, if she can’t find something else to do; but she’d really rather not waste the day sitting around the house alone.

Not knowing many other kids in the neighborhood, Makayla tries calling Wally, the boy her age down the street who is quite possibly gay and (does or) doesn’t know it, yet. Makayla likes Wally in that he was nice to her when she first moved in to the new neighborhood. He doesn’t look at her all funny like some older boys and men do, which makes her feel comfortable around him.

Not able to reach Wally, she decides to just walk over to his house several blocks away rather than be at the house alone with her step dad Graham.
