Haley looked down at the two blue lines, and her heart sank.
The first thing she thought was how disappointed her mom would be of her, after telling her so many times to use a condom when she eventually started having sex. She'd lied to her time and time again, telling her that she and Dylan weren't ready, and that she didn't need to go on the pill just yet - promised to be safe and yet here she was in a drugstore bathroom with a pregnancy test between her fingers telling her that yes, she was indeed pregnant.
Dylan and Haley had only slept together a handful of times, stealing any steamy moment they could however awkward, usually doing it in the back of his car as both their houses were never truly empty. Haley had thought she was ready to lose her virginity since her friends were, but while they were losing it in motel rooms or their own bedrooms, she felt she'd missed out on that 'special' first time and if she was honest, she didn't think she actually loved Dylan.
Sure, he was hot, but they didn't really talk much when they hung out, they just made out and he listened to her while she complained about her parents and siblings.
It had been three weeks since she'd realized her period was late, but shook it off and tried to tell herself that it was nothing. Two weeks ago, she started feeling exhausted and nauseous, but this time she put it down to flu. A week ago, she'd started to eat a little more and felt bloated more often, and realized she'd now missed her period for two months and that her tummy was no longer flat, and that her breasts had started to feel sensitive.
At this point, Haley knew what was going on, and accepted that she needed to take a test. Tears now flowed down her face as she cycled through the three options she saw: abortion, giving up the child for adoption, or keeping it.
She knew in her heart she wouldn't be able to go through with an abortion, and could she really give up a baby after carrying it for seven more months? What made matters worse was that she and Dylan had broken up a few weeks ago, and from what she'd heard he was now dating a junior called Heather.
Just then, her stomach rumbled. For the last few days, Haley's appetite had been almost insatiable, which she put down to the pregnancy. Her hand rested on top of her small bump as she tried to think what to do next - she was thinking a buffet would be a great way to kill two birds with one stone as she could drown her sorrows for an hour or so while also satisfying her growing hunger.
She left the stall, trying to keep her head high as she went to her car and started driving to Mama's Grub Buffet.

Two hours later, Haley lent back in the dark booth at the back of the buffet restaurant after eating almost three full plates of mac n cheese, sliders, buttered greens, and loaded fries and nachos before finishing it off with a large bowl of ice cream. While her hunger was satisfied (for now), her stomach had grown, highlighting her new situation clearly as she rubbed the softer skin. Even though she was young, Haley knew that if she kept eating like this she'd lose her enviable figure and vowed to not let herself eat like that ever again, although she knew in her heart of hearts her habits would slowly change and she wouldn't just be gaining baby weight.
That's when an idea popped into her head: she wasn't ready to tell her parents about the pregnancy just yet, so why not just wear baggier clothes and put it down to weight gain until she knew how to tell them.
Haley stared lovingly at her small belly, thinking of the baby inside her growing, about the life they could have together...
It was official - she was going to be a teen mom. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
