You feel a slight tingle as you pay for the red dress, perhaps the idea of paying over a hundred dollars for a dress that you're only going to wear once is disturbing to you. The cashier bags up your dress, and you follow Sarah outside. She had already paid for her dress and now the two of you were set to explore the mall.
Feeling a loud rumbling in your stomach, you decide that it is time to head to the food court. Having skipped breakfast, you are more than willing to spend some money on greasy mall food.
You and Sarah each find something to eat and then search out an empty table. As you eat, you find yourself more annoyed with Sarah than you normally are. Sarah keeps talking to you, but you all you can hear is whining. Why can't you have friends that are more cheery?
"Can you please just stop complaining for once in your life?" You finally snap.
Sarah looks at you hurt. Her eyes began to fill up with tears.
"My dad has cancer!" Sarah shouted back, causing everyone in the food court to turn and look at you. "I'm sorry that you don't want to hear about it, but this is important to me. You're my best friend and I don't know who else I can talk to about this."
"Life isn't all sunshine and roses," You grumble as you continue eating.
"What happened to you? Why are you acting this way?" Sarah cried out.
Just then, you have a moment of clarity. Why are you acting this way? This isn't like you. You knew that Sarah's dad had cancer. You had even talked with her extensively about it.
"I'm sorry," You mumble an apologize. "You're right, I don't know what came over me."
The two of you finish eating and throw your garbage away. As you are getting ready to leave, you spot Tommy and Jason leaving the game store. Grabbing Sarah's hand you rush over to meet the two boys.
