Chapter #5

New Day, New Problems

    by: Gator Author IconMail Icon
The new-day sunlight shining through your window and the noises of activity coming from outside stirred you from your sleep. The bed had been surprisingly pleasant to rest in, and it almost lured you back to sleep with it's comfort, but you willed your groggy self up. You dressed yourself back into your normal (and only) set of clothes, rearmed yourself and gathered the remainder of your things, not forgetting Molly's letter, before leaving.

---

The morning passed as you planned it would: you sent Molly's letter, had managed to grab a decent sword from the armoury for a respectable price, still holding on to your wooden one as well just incase something arose, and were currently slipping through the crowds to the docks with a slight spring in your step.

You could feel the tiniest sense of achievement in your heart that the day had, so far, went so well. All that remained now was to board a ship to Joyeuse, the port city closest to where the capital (and with it, the Witch Queen) rested. If it costs as much as you've heard it would, you should still have plenty of money to spare after you've bought a ticket. Sighing slightly while recalling some of your many dreams of slaying the evil queen and becoming a great hero, you hoped the rest of your journey went as well as it had so far.

Drawing closer to port, you notice a rather large group of (what you believed to be) adventurers like yourself has gathered outside a large, old and prestigious church. Curiosity getting the better of you, you take a small detour from your registered path and walk up to the crowd.

"Excuse me." You manage to get the attention of a girl about your age with long golden hair "What are you guys doing?"

The girl turns to face you completely, her amber eyes accompanying the bright smile she gives you "Haven't you heard?"

"Uh..." You don't think you would be asking if you did "No, I haven't."

"The mayor's giving a huge reward for getting rid of a monster girl that's held up in the old place." She glances over her shoulder and points to the church "But, from what we've gathered, she's a real tough one. So we're gonna take her together and split the reward. It's so much money you could split it a hundred ways and it'd still make your eyes bulge."

You rest a hand on your chin "Do you know how she got in the church in the first place?"

She shrugs "Beats me honestly." She retrieves her spear from it's position of leaning against a wall "I just want some money and a good fight!" Her smile gains a cocky layer to it and fire flares in her eyes "You wanna join us?"

The promise of money is certainly enticing, and the chance to fight a strong monster girl, with the help of others, would definitely give you some experience for when you'd probably have to fight one solo. But it could possibly take all day, so you might have to get another inn room tonight and put your voyage on hold for a few days.

You have the following choices:

1. Continue to the docks

2. Help investigate the church
