William didn't want to take the risk in trying to snatch up the items. Instead, the fox decided to sneak away and not aggravate the Syrup Vines. But as he turned around to run, a lone Syrup Vine surprise attacked William. It leaped onto his face, wrapping its vine body around the fox's head. William felt a loose vine force its way into his maw and toward his throat. The fox tried biting down hard onto the vine, but the root was too thick for him to gnaw through.
As William tried to pry the Syrup Vine from his face, thick liquid began to fill his belly. Every second, the fox's flat stomach bloated out, stretching his tunic and wearing out the seams. The shirt started riding up his ballooning gut as William continued to try and rip the Syrup Vine off of him.
Nothing that he did was working. Biting, clawing, nothing was hurting the Syrup Vine. His stomach was reaching its bursting point. The tunic was no longer bothered to cover the nearly two foot wide sphere of orange and white fur swelling on his midsection.
The pressure was almost too much for William to handle. And none of his attacks were working against the Syrup Vine. The fox resigned himself to fate. He'll painfully blow up into a giant furry balloon until he popped in a massive explosion of syrup.
Right when William felt like he was about to pop, the Syrup Vine suddenly let go. It pulled the vine from the fox's mouth, detached itself from William's face, and scurried away. The creature had run dry, clearly having emptied most of its liquid into the other unlucky traveler beforehand.
William glanced down at his poor, extended gut. Never before had he seen his stomach this large. It has also never been so full. Gently rubbing a paw along the tight skin of his stomach, the fox evaluated his situation. He needed to rest his inflated gut, but the area might not be completely safe. If he stayed and rested, more of the Syrup Vines might show up.
