This choice: Day 2: Jack, clearly showing, goes on his date with Jennifer. • Go Back...Chapter #6Day 2: Jack, clearly showing, goes on his date ... by: Unknown As the morning began, the sun was hidden beyond a gloomy overcast sky. The thick, swollen clouds blanketed the town in preparation of rain. A thunderstorm warning was immediately in effect, which is what woke Jack Jr. up from his sleep. Similarly to everyone else that morning, he felt dismayed looking out the window. He forced himself up and cleaned himself, feeling heavy and sluggish.
He heard a text message, and saw a note from Jenny. "You up?" it said simply.
Jenny had been organizing breakfast occasionally over the past few weeks, trying out different cafés around town. Jack was happy that she wanted to spend time with him, but they were already going to spend plenty of money today at the mall.
"Come over to my house for breakfast. I'll make omelets," he texted.
"Is that okay?" Jenny asked.
"Yeah. When you're ready." Jack put his phone away and went to the kitchen. His mother was eating toast.
"Do you want and omelet, Mom?" Jack asked.
"No, thank you." Amanda peered at her son when he wasn't looking. There was something slightly different about him today that she couldn't place. Had he gained weight. His stomach was a touch rounder. Still at home and getting a "Freshman fifteen," she thought.
Jack Jr. was fond of cooking. Perhaps he had simply picked it up from watching anime characters expound on the glory of food for many years, but it was a natural interest for him. He liked to experiment with different tastes. As he finished the omelets, his phone buzzed again.
"Hey, sorry. Something came up, so I can't make it in time for breakfast. I'll see you at the mall, though, so don't worry."
"Hmm." Jack muttered. He looked longingly at the omelets that he had prepared, but decided against eating them both. He had a sneaking suspicion that she was uncomfortable seeing his parents. He asked his mother where the styrofoam boxes were, and packed both delicious morsels away. His stomach roared in protest.
"Won't they get cold?" his mother asked.
"They'll still be good," he replied. Especially since he was the one who made it.
Jack drove to the mall and met Jenny at the front.
"Hey, sorry. You didn't have to bring any breakfast."
"It's my treat." he said simply. They found a bench and ate, savoring each other's company. Jenny only ate half of hers, but she seemed happy. Politely, she asked Jack to finish her leftovers, which he gladly did.
She was trying not to think about his belly.
The two waltzed over to the computer store, hoping to find some nice parts to build a gaming pc. Jack had recommended the task to Jenny to help with her game design. It would be good to get hands on experience building a computer herself. She agreed. While they browsed for parts, an odd sensation began to bother Jack. He felt something hot in his pocket. When he felt around, he found the coin again.
I don't remember taking this.

Jack's insides churned as he looked at the thing. He put the coin away, and went back to shopping.
When they had finished shopping for parts, after much deliberation, Jack and Jenny shared a buttered pretzel in the center of the mall. They were right outside of a maternity clothing store, "Belles and Bellies." Jack thought it was a stupid name, but it wasn't really on his mind. He was more concerned with what they were going to do after the mall.
"Let's get some clothes," Jenny said.
"What?"
"I feel like shopping for clothes."
"I though we were going to, you know, get a movie," said Jack. She gave him a smile.
"Come on. There's not a lot of people here today, so it'll be real quick. We'll get a movie afterward. Besides, you could use another shirt," she teased. She tugged at the hem of his t shirt.
"Huh," he said. He somehow hadn't noticed that it was hugging his body firmly. "Alright, we'll flip it. Heads: we get a movie first. Tails: we get clothes first."

As he caught the coin, Jack looked at the result, and then ahead at the maternity clothing store. "Heads."
He blinked. He was watching an employee leave the maternity store, only for her to expand before his very eyes. It was an instant, but no one else seemed to notice or respond. Not even the woman.
"Let's get the movie, then," Jenny said
"No, let's get the clothes," Jack replied.
"You won the coin toss."
"Well, it can wait," he said.
"Thank you."
It had occurred to Jack that shopping was really Jenny's idea, and that she probably intended to get clothes in the first place. He got himself a pack of larger shirts in the meantime, troubled. He had been doing a good job of losing weight recently, so it was unpleasant to think that it was going away.
Jenny was a gorgeous woman. Jack liked the way she looked in a dress, although it was not common for her to wear. He complimented her on everything she chose, and thankfully never had to lie.
When they finished, they passed by a wishing fountain. It was a nostalgic place for Jack. He watched his reflection shimmer in the rippling water. He pulled out the coin, compulsively.
