The process started as normal, electrodes were connected to Lisa's head to transfer skills from Heather Rhodes, and the large arcane circle on the floor flared to life as it should have. Within the room, a pressure built as reality was bent and warped, connecting the existence of Heather Rhodes to Lisa Hale, and vice versa. Two doors down, the same process was occurring for Heather.
But then, something happened. Later, skilled teams of sorcerers and electricians would try to piece together where it started. Was it a short in the neural linkage that spilled over into the magical circle? Was there damage to one of the circles that caused a surge in energy? It was hard to say which failed first, but one thing was certain: Things did not proceed according to plan.
The power of energy in the room intensified, the dim glow of magic in the arcane circle became blindingly bright, and the EEG connected to the neural link went mad with more than ten times the amount of activity that would been expected. Then, the lights went out, and everything stopped.
