You look at the tail and shake your head.
Being reckless is what got me in this position in the first place You remind yourself. You lay down with your feet off the edge and climb down by grabbing the creases in the blankets. You try not to look down, but you feel as if you are high enough that the fall, while not able to kill you, will have to break a bone here or there. Being about three inches tall, it turns into a requirement rid your fear of heights. After a few minutes you managed to make it to the hard wood floor; your arms and legs shiver in fatigue and you drop to your knees. You don't ever plan on doing that again anytime soon.
You stand up as your strength returns to you and dash as fast as you can towards the closest wall. There has to be a mouse hole leading to a colony or camp somewhere. Despite all your efforts, you are lost. You never been in Solace's bedroom before. The only places you have been to was Niarb, a colony hidden under the floor in the living room, and your newest home colony, Quill.
It is found in the kitchen, wall furthest from the pantry. So your only idea on what to do is to return to home to the kitchen. You walk across the floor towards the door to the living room, eventually getting there and crawling under it. You scan the room for any suspicious activity, you don't know if Solace has any family members visiting. You've never seen any other leona other than Solace, but you heard unpleasant stories about Risa, her sister. Nothing was out of the ordinary, except for a backpack and some clothes lying next to the couch. You head towards the kitchen and crawl under the door leading to it. You travel inch by inch on the tiled floor heading for drawers in the counter.
To the closest counter to that hole there is another hole at the base of it. You head towards it and enter through, nowhere else to go but up. You climb the sides of the draws, not the easiest thing to do when they are closed, but much safer than climbing the back of the draws. You swear that one day those things will kill you when slammed closed if you are behind them.
You climbed to the top of the drawers and climb through a small hole in the marble ceiling, You get a better view of the kitchen. There are cabinets above you, and the pantry is directly across the room from you to your left. You turn more to your left and see another small hole, you crawl through it. You know for sure this is the way to Quill. You climb through some pipes in the wall up to a hole leading to an unused cabinet. This is Quill, the newest colony. Its streets are lined with little shacks as the houses are being built in a neat line; though they are spaced really close.
"I finally made it." you sigh to yourself.
A fellow orange micen comes up to greet you and noticed your damp fur. "What happened to you, you look half digested! Did you get eaten?" he joked.
"Yes," You answer, and walk away leaving him with a questioned look on his face. You look around for the person in charge of the project. You turn back to the micen and call for him "Where's Ritler?".
The micen, still contemplating if what you said earlier was true, pointed towards a figure supervising a house. You head towards Ritler as he notices you. "Serena," he greets "what took you so long? Where is the rest of your crew?"
You look down. "Mission to retrieve food was a failure sir,. Solace was tipped off by a fellow micen she caught earlier."
He looked concerned. Micen, such as yourself, travel in pairs to retrieve food from the pantry. Quill was build closer to it for less of a trip, while not in as a safe position as Niarb. "Did you find out who told her?"
You nod your head "It doesn't matter anymore, he didn't make a deal with Solace for his life either, he just blurted it out. Turns out, she doesn't like it when friends betray each other. Almost as much as she doesn't like micen eating her food."
His eyes narrow on you. "How did you escape?".
You lock eyes with him, "She fell asleep while tasting me."
His eyes are filled with disbelief "How do I know you aren't lying?"
You gesture towards your body, still damp with Solace's saliva. "Does it really look like I'm lying?"
He inspects you a bit more and coughs, "I couldn't smell her breath until now. Alright, go clean yourself off and get some rest. Report here tomorrow, I will give you a new mission." You turn to leave as his voice calls out to you. "Oh, and seeing as your superiors were devoured, congratulations on your promotion."
You shrug off his words as you walk towards your shack. After washing yourself down in a bucket of water and soap, you dry yourself off and lay on your bed made out of a torn up cotton ball. You didn't realize how tired you were until you lie down. What an interesting day you think to yourself as you drift off into sleep.
