Chapter #6Withering Warrior by: Vintovka   As soon as the die clatters to a stop you feel the spell's effect, and you know you failed before Dani even says anything. Everything around you begins to grow: the plastic trees double in size, the squares marking off 5 feet on each side stretch out, and the enemy model sprouts up. You feel Dani exhale, and to your surprise the enemy model's plastic hair blows with the breeze.
"Okay, that's the end of the round!" Danielle proclaims, picking up the dice again. She tells you that you're the red one before dropping them and letting them come to a stop. "Lucky you, you get to go first again. Just let me change some stuff on your sheet before you decide."
You dutifully wait while you're titanic friend scribbles the alterations down, and then declare, "I charge the enemy wizard!" You run at her, mace held high to strike. Just as you enter the adjacent square you feel a sharp tug on your back as Dani grabs you, pulling you away.
"You're a size small creature now," she tells you, holding the sheet up. "That means you can't move as far." She sets you four squares away from your target, and you see that you're at about waist height to the figurine. "Okay now it's her turn again!"
The figure's head snaps down to look at you, and its metallic eyes flare to life, turning a very familiar shade of blue. Similarly its metal skin becomes flesh-colored, and the model's clothing is now black with gold embroidery. She moves an arm up, a solid motion much less jerky than the previous time, and does its familiar gesture as an enormous die slams onto the table behind you.
Again everything around you gets bigger. The enemy mage, in particular, stretches up until you're about even with her knees. More details on her fill in as you get smaller - some wire glasses appear on her face, and her hair turns a light shade of brown. This model was becoming Danielle as you shrank!
"Okay, next round," booms a voice behind you, as well as from in front of you. The model's lips move as Danielle speaks, and says, "Lucky you again! What do you do this round?"
"I charge her again!" you say, getting impetuous at how she keeps shrinking you. Quickly you dash forward, and take the square adjacent to Danielle's model. You swing your weapon at the air and wait for Danielle to roll your attack. "It's my turn," you pipe up, "and I'm in range to attack her."
"Not quite! You're in the tiny size category now, you have to occupy the same square to attack! Stop trying to break the rules or I'll stop taking it easy on you!" You sigh in resignation and look up at the figurine. Danielle's tiny avatar, several times your size, raises its hand to you again as it readies a spell.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
