Chapter #6

Something else.

As the Connors family reunited and thanked their blessings that everyone made it out of the accident alright with minor incident, the Alverez family was on the other side of the building, dealing with an unfortunate and strange situation. Unbeknownst to Tim, Kerry and Saunders had withheld the truth, as the events that happened to the Alverez family could not be let out for the safety and privacy of those involved.

Chris and his family waited in the chairs outside of a closed room where 18 year old Joseph was recovering from the accident. Despite some minor injuries, everyone that was in the minivan was okay, except for Joseph who had yet to be seen by either Chris or his parents, and none of the nurses or workers would allow them into Joseph's room to check on him, worrying them greatly despite reassurances that Joseph was recovering well, not explaining much outside of that.

Dr. Kerry and Dr. Saunders finally made their way back from sending off the Connors on their way, as Maria, Hector, Carolina, and Chris sat up from their chairs in anticipation of news regarding their son and brother.

"Mr and Mrs. Alverez, I want to apologize on behalf of Dr. Kerry, myself, and the rest of my staff that we kept you waiting with little information. But we should warn you that while Joseph is now on his way to being completely healed and safe, there were certain choices and procedures we needed to take on your son that were of great urgency and needed to be done to ensure his survival from his injuries." Dr. Saunders spoke.

"In doing so, not only have we managed to save your son's life, but we have advanced medical science in ways the world will not appreciate right away!" Dr. Kerry spoke, sounding prideful in his tone that did not fit the seriousness of the situation.

"Come on Doc, spit it out! Is our hijo going to be okay? What's going on with him?" Maria snapped at the lack of transparency.

"We appreciate you saving our son's life, but our family would like some answers and to see Joseph." Said Hector with a serious stern tone. Chris and Carolina were for once in their lives not bickering as siblings, as their concern for their dear brother took greater importance, instead embracing in arms.

"Well, you all remember, the accident had almost mortally wounded Joseph, as his body took most of the impact being in the front passenger seat." Dr. Saunders began to explain further. "We would have lost him here in our hospital, if it weren't for the coincidental arrival of another member of your family who had a sudden stroke."

"Someone else in our family had a stroke and is here?!" Chris exclaimed, shocked by the news at this time of great stress.

"Yes, and unfortunately, they did not survive their ordeal. I apologize for breaking the news like this, I understand this only adds to your grief and concern." Continued Dr. Saunders.

"And the reason we bring this up, is because with their unfortunate passing, the opportunity to save young Joseph's life presented itself. If it weren't for their unfortunate circumstances, young Joseph would not be with us today." Added Dr. Kerry.

The Alverez family looked at the two surgeons heartbroken and confused. What could this mean? Who in their family had sadly passed, and what did this mean for Joseph? The questions swirled in the Alverez family's heads.

"I think all your questions would be best answered if we went in to see Joseph. He is still recovering and resting so I ask you all to be quiet and not touch him, but I am sure he will happy to see you all well.

Chris gulped nervously as him and his family anxiously walked into the hospital room, full of various machines tubes connected to the patient on the bed. However, there was a look of confusion on the Alverez's faces as they looked at the bed. The person there was not their son and brother Joseph. This person was a woman. And a woman they all knew very well in their household.

"Oh my god..." Carolina gasped as she stared at the woman. "That's..."
