You sighed and asked, "Is there any way I can help you, mom?"
Mom smiled slightly, her face softening. "Well, you can help by running a few errands for me in town." Kindly, she said. "You can take Hayley with you for company."
"Why can't I just take Harry with me?" Curious, you asked.
"You'll be in the mall for hours with his hobby of shopping for antiques." Smiling, mom replied. "With Hayley, you can get in and out in half the time."
"Okay." Shrugging, you said. "Do you have a list of things you need.?"
Mom nodded and gave you a hand written list of items. You read it then threw her a curious glance. "These are some rather strange things to buy." Raising an eyebrow, you stated.
"It's all for a project Hayley and I are working on." Lightly, mom said. "Maybe we'll let you help."
You placed the paper into your pocket then turned to find Hayley waiting for you. "Are you sure you want John in on this?" Wincing, she asked. "Gardening is not his strong suit."
"I want John to have a sense of participation in our... skills and interests." Serious, mom said. "We had kept him in the dark long enough."
"What are you talking about?" Worried, you asked.
"It's a girl thing." Smiling, mom said. "You are not afraid to get in touch with your feminine side, are you, John?"
"Well, no." Confused, you asked.
Mom giggled. "Good. Now be a nice lad and get those items for me."
Hayley smiled, taking you by the arm. "Come on, sis... I mean bro. Let's go to the mall."
