You decide to shrink yourself super tiny and survive, nobody aware of your existence.
This choice: the parents' bedroom.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #3

Be Sensible

    by: Doom Author IconMail Icon
Heading upstairs, you check out the master bedroom. Weighing up the many factors you'll have to consider, you conclude that this will be the best place to stake your new home. Of all the bedrooms, it will be the least occupied; teenagers spend so much more time in their rooms than adults! This way there'll be much less traffic, and consequently so much less chance of you being spotted.

Strangely enough, there being two people sleeping in this room means that, should you be in deadly peril and need to alert a regular-sized person to your peril - the absolute last resort, you promise yourself - you have two such people available. And, being full-grown adults, they're much more trustworthy sources of salvation.

On the downside, there will be less food being brought up to the room - teenagers are more likely to snack than their parents - and you'll have to be careful of more conscientious adults cleaning up and destroying your home.

Still! As you survey the room, its double-bed sitting opposite a large closet, tidy chests of drawers to either side and numerous family photographs studding the walls, you conclude that you've made the wisest choice. The Andersons will support your life for the foreseeable future.

You're about to unpack your gear, and tune the shrinking device, when a thought strikes you. Part of the reason you're doing this is to become self reliant in a survivalist environment, but why should you start off with nothing? While full-sized, you could gather a few useful supplies for yourself and stash them away for future use by your 1/8" self. It wouldn't really be cheating, and would give you a bit of a safety net in case the first few days are harder than you imagined.

Of course, every second you spend full size increases the risk of an Anderson coming home and finding you, so is it worth the risk?

Of course, it doesn't have to be as extreme as stealing some food and materials for later - you could just wander the house and make a few tiny handholds and such to make moving around easier for when you're smaller...

Or, before the future giants get back, you could look through their possessions a little, just to get a bit more of an idea of their personalities and lifestyles, what you could not have learned from your previous outside spying. Don't think of it as snooping, since soon you'll be trapped in this house, at their mercy, and getting to know them much more intimately.

A final thought strikes your mind. While you had planned to do this in secret, that does feel a little dirty. Before you shrink, you could write a note explaining what you've done, and leave it here. You wouldn't be revealing yourself per se, but having the family know that there is a tiny man in their house might alleviate some of your guilt.
