Chapter #6After the groomer by: DudeJude Derrick and Marcy were led out to the front of the store where his Mom and Aunt Lauren were waiting. Derrick had actually enjoyed the experience quite a bit. It was kind of nice being pampered by the cute lady that worked at the groomer.
"Oh, you two are just sooooooo ADORABLE!", said Aunt Lauren in a very high voice as she reached down to pet the two dogs.
"The pretty pink bows really complete the look! Maybe you should take Princess to the show instead.", said Mom in a mocking tone.
"Marcy always did have a bit of trouble with the obedience part of the competition. I could make it worth your while.", whispered Aunt Lauren under her breath.
Derrick wasn't going to let the thought of being stuck as Marcy bother him. After all, the trip to the groomer was coming out of his hard earned money. He was stuck like this at least until tomorrow, so he might as well roll with the punches.
Aunt Lauren pulled a treat out of her pocket and told Derrick to sit. Although a bit confused, he complied quickly and was rewarded with a tasty treat.
"Ah, ah! Not for you "Princess"", said Mom as Aunt Lauren held out a treat for Marcy. "You're in the doghouse tonight, literally."
It took Derrick a minute before he realized what was going on. Looking at Marcy, he noticed that the collars had been mixed up during the grooming. Marcy was wearing the orange collar that they had given to him for the trip over and he must be wearing the pink glittery one. Both his Mom and Aunt thought that he was Marcy. This amused him as his Aunt stroked his head and told him what a good girl he was. "I'm going to play out this charade for a little bit longer.", thought Derrick as he enjoyed the extra attention. "I'll figure out some way to let them know once we get back home. It's been an interesting day, that's for sure!"
Both of the dogs jumped up into the back of the car, excited to go for another ride in the car. The ride was short, but gave the two women a chance to talk a little bit on the ride home.
"You've been working much too hard Emily!", scolded Lauren as the two pulled out of the shop. "You and Nick should take some time off by yourselves. Pet sitters are cheap and I'm sure Katlyn and Derrick will be fine for a week or so while you're away."
"Not a bad idea.", said Mom with a smile. "A week would be a nice rest, and enough time for the them to learn a lesson. "Would you be able to stop by and look after them if I can convince Nick?"
Derrick let out a deep yawn as he rested his head. It had been a busy day, and he was tired as can be.
"Unfortunately, the show in Vegas is this week. I think we have a good shot this year if I can get lucky with a few of the more challenging parts of the competition.", said Lauren as she looked back to see one of the dogs fast asleep. "We're leaving tonight to get an early start."
"But I thought Marcy hated flying!", said Mom.
"That's what the treat was for. The vet suggested giving her something to knock her out. It's not a long flight, so we should arrive before she even knows what's going on. She'll probably be awake, but too high to care what's going on. If she doesn't bring home a medal next time, maybe Derrick wouldn't mind taking her place.", laughed Lauren.
"How much do championship puppies go for nowadays?", teased Mom as she looked back at the awake Marcy. "Sounds like a good summer job."
Both women laughed as they pulled into the driveway. Mom helped get "Marcy" into her carrier and attached a leash to the real Marcy.
"Come on Princess. Time to talk to your Dad and see if we can't find a pet sitter.", said Mom as she tugged on the leash.
Marcy happily followed Mom back into the house as Lauren waved to her from her car.
After a very uneventful flight, Lauren hailed a cab at the airport and headed to the hotel. It was about that time that Derrick started to regain consciousness.
Lauren looks at him and says...
