Laura glanced around uneasily, studying the shadows. There were too many to even considering staring into them all. The dense trees stole all the light from the sky, and the ever darkening surroundings suggested the sun was setting. "We shouldn't have come. Not without a guide, a map, something that could help us."
A brisk wind shook the trees, causing leaves to rain down around them. Laura pulled at her long blonde hair, trying to remove the leaves and forest debris.
"We could retrace our steps," Steven suggested.
They turned, trying to figure out the direction they'd come from.
"I think it was that way," they spoke simultaneously, pointing in opposite directions.
Steven pointed towards a particularly large tree, over one hundred feet tall with unique markings carved into it.
Laura pointed to a group of smaller trees, all intertwined and struggling with each other for light and space.
