"We'd better be careful, Steven" Laura whispered. "We don't want to become a statistic."
Steven nodded. "I agree."
"So... now what?" Laura asked her boyfriend. Here eyes were wide but she tried to not look scared.
Breaking off a nearby branch, Steven fashioned out a torch from the wood and lit it up. "There. That should get rid of the darkness." he said. "Don't get too close, Laura. You might get burned. Best let me handle the torch."
Laura nodded, backing away. "Good idea."
"Watch out!"
Laura had taken a step too far back. Almost losing her footing, she wobbled before Steven rushed forward and steadied her, bringing her back onto the path. Hugging her boyfriend, she thanked him profusely. "I think you just saved my life."
Steven nodded. "okay Laura. Let's keep moving. It's unwise to stay in the same spot for too long, otherwise trouble will come. You go in front, I'll direct you on where to go, heaven forbid something happen to you behind my back."
As the duo continued through the darkness, Laura couldn't shake the feeling that someone was still watching her. Stopping suddenly, she turned around.
"What?" Steven asked. "I didn't do anything!"
"Someone's watching." Laura whispered. "I can feel it."
Steven frowned. "Oh-kay... What do you want me to do about it?"
