This choice: Sabrina wants to talk with her mother • Go Back... Celine, can you hear me? Celine, Momma, I know you are out there. Sabrina hears leaves rustling and a branch snap, but no one has appeared. She sits on the ground rubbing her ankle, wondering if it is just sprained or did she break it. Her father was going to be furious with her for disobeying him and getting hurt. Another branch snapped and then the moon showed as if someone was holding a curtain so the glow could shine into the wooded area. Sabrina could see nothing still yet, she sensed she was not alone.
Who's there? Come out and show yourself. I won't hurt you.
Another twig snapped, the leaves rustled again and then she saw the greenish yellow eyes staring at her with the whitest canine teeth sparkling in the moonlight.
Sabrina spoke softly to the wolf, remember me, I came a long time with my dog named Bo and you were here with Celine. Do you know where she is? I really need to talk to my mother.
A low growl from the wolf did not encourage her to move closer to him.
Why does my mother go by the name Celine now, she was born Morgana? Is there treachery I don't know about. She told me I would be always safe, but that other evil fairy, Charlie tried to hurt her but Morgana intervened. I've seen things with Morgana that just don't make sense. She won't tell me anything, says I am too young to know.
The wolf looked over his shoulder and then move closer to Sabrina. "Celine and Morgana are not the same. Morgana locked Celine up because Celine is too good for her own good. She really is the only one you can trust out here."
"What do you know about my mother? Has she done something? Should I be afraid? My father says there is more to the story but he won’t say!"
Another branch snapped, and then the moon really became visible. The branches of the big pine suddenly were all gone, it looked as if some shaved all the boughs on one side. But how could that be? Sabrina stared into the clearing, wondering what kind of trickery was unfolding, only the sound of a twig breaking.
The wolf whined and whimpered coming closer to Sabrina, his hair on his back standing straight up. He whispered, don't say anything, it's our secret. They don't know I can talk.
"Wolf, I wondered where you vanished too?"
Morgana swept into the moonlight, sparkling rubies around her neck that enhanced her pearly white skin and the fitted black dress made her look intimidating.
Sabrina spoke before the wolf could growl in response. "I hurt my ankle, I am unable to walk. The wolf was guarding me until you arrived."
"I don't live far, you can come to my home with me. I'll have you all fixed up as good as new."
Sabrina couldn't help but think about the Owens children she saw last time, her mother had assured it was all a misunderstanding and the children would be home by the time the sun rose the last Sabrina saw Morgana. She tried to stand, but the pain was too much and she fell back against the tree. Morgana told her to put her arm around the wolf and he would carry her the short distance.
The wolf leaned in close to Sabrina, and said quietly," I can only do so much to protect you. Don't let your guard down for a minute."
"Did I hear something?"
Sabrina moaned a little louder that time, hoping her mother wouldn't ask anything else.
" Ow...ow...ooooo it hurts, it hurts so muchhhh." Sabrina was laying it on quite thick for her mother's benefit.
