"Just five more minutes mom..." Lena grumbled, blindly shoving away a leaf that had fallen on her face. Three full days ago, she had abandoned her pack den in search of adventure, and quickly become lost in the forest. Far from the fantastic tales her brothers had so often regaled her with, the wilderness seemed decidedly boring.
Lena had spent the majority of the previous day foraging for berries and small nuts to fill her tiny stomach - inwardly, she missed being fed by her mother, but this was the stuff of a solitary life, right? Every so often she would come across a startled pidgey, or spot a metapod slumbering in the low branches of a tree. Otherwise, the forest seemed quiet and docile.
"Come on mom... just another... wh-huh?" Lena's eyes slowly opened, taking in the small, shaded space of the weeping mulberry she'd fallen asleep beneath. With a small shake of her head, she mentally reminded herself that she was no longer at home. Groggily, she got to her feet and, shaking some sparse twigs off of her broad, fox-like ears, she padded out into the woods.
The sunlight was made dim as it scattered through the high tree branches overhead, but it glinted like fairy lights on the dewy grass of the forest floor. Lena sucked in a deep breath of the fresh morning air, and considered what direction she might go.
Cresting a hill the past evening, she had seen some low mountains. They could be fun to visit, but she wondered how easy it would be to find food there. Alternatively, she could use her keen sense of hearing to find a river, and maybe follow that to a lake. Beyond that, the only option Lena could think of would be to keep wandering through the woods at random, hoping to stumble across the adventure she so craved.
