Chapter #5

Skyler the Unaware Wolf

    by: Smuxray Author IconMail Icon
A light, rhythmic crunching can be heard as gentle steps wind their way through the underbrush. A lean, canine form pushes out of the shrubbery into a small clearing. After cautiously sniffing the air and glancing back and forth, the wolf shakes his body vigorously back and forth, sending an assortment of thorns, sticks and leafy bits flying out of his fluff.

Ugh. Still not a single one today…

The wolf Pokémon sits on his haunches, and the change in position prompts his belly to let out a long gwuuuorgle in complaint of his lack of sustenance. I never thought I was going to have this much trouble finding berries…

Even for a Lycanroc, this one is skinny, with almost no meat to speak of on his belly or back legs. His fur is sleek, although it’s not quite shiny, and the copious fluff of his mane and tail are neat and well-groomed… well, when he’s not scrounging through thickets looking for food.

“I feel like I’m about to wither away… why did I ever think moving out here would be a g--”

The wolf interrupts himself as his ears twitch, hearing a slight rustle behind him. His heart immediately starts beating faster against his will.

Oh no. Not live prey, please… I’m a terrible hunter, don’t make me embarrass myself…

Against his wishes, the Lycanroc drops into a crouch and aims himself toward the source of the noise. Although he hasn’t eaten anything live in his entire life, it can’t be denied how much his body could use such a meal right now. He was the runt of the litter back at home; he never had the drive or hunting instinct of his siblings, and it showed. He was considered harmless by the denizens of the forest, and some of his best friends were among the small prey creatures who lived in fear of his relatives. He moved out to make his own way, stop relying on his siblings for protection, get away from the ridicule that always awaited him at home… but so far it looked like he’d be walking back to them in shame, like they all said he would.

...Unless I catch this thing. I need to prove to them that I..!

“What are you doing down there, darling? You look ridiculous.”

“AAH!” the wolf yelps and spins around at the sudden voice from behind, being greeted by the sleek, feline form of a Liepard. She’s sitting, licking her paw in complete nonchalance, and glaring down at him like a princess might at a grungy commoner. “Y-you scared me,” the canine comments in an attempt to fill the uneasy silence.

The cat rolls her eyes. “Just as I suspected. I never thought a predator could be so loud and clumsy…” The feline’s tail curls around, revealing a round blue fruit clenched within, which she promptly takes a bite out of. The Lycanroc’s eyes light up.
“Hey! Where’d you get that? I’ve been looking all over and there’s nothing...” He trails off as the purple cat starts chuckling, then full-on laughing, tossing the half-eaten berry to the side like nothing.

“You’re absolutely pitiful! I’ve been stalking you this whole time. I even went ahead and stole all the berries off of your path, and you had no idea! This is rich!” She messily swallows the bits of berry left in her mouth, then pats her midsection, which is visibly bulging with a soft, squishy mass. “You’re lucky I ruined my appetite on all those berries, or else I’d be dining on you right now.”

The wolf’s ears droop as he finally realizes the cat’s intent. “O-oh… I’m… sorry…” He turns as if to walk away, but clenches his teeth and mumbles one last thing to the high-and-mighty feline. “You don’t think… we could just be friends?”

The Liepard grins for a moment, then her expression turns to one of mock pity. “Oh, you poor thing.” She stands up and slowly circles around the stationary dog, swaying her hips and tail slowly. The Lycanroc can’t help but notice how her lithely figure rounds out at the end, her thighs and rump having some impressive width. “If you stick around, I’ll introduce you to all my other friends back here,” she says, and slaps her ass with a flick of her tail. “But if, for whatever reason you’d rather be your pathetic self than a layer of cat fat on my sexy ass, then I’d recommend you not show your face here again.” Completing her circle, she walks away from him, not looking back but continuing to sway her rump seductively. “Your choice.”

As the leopard disappears from sight, the Lycanroc flops onto the ground and lets out a sigh.

“My name’s Skyler. What’s your name? Do you like flowers? I like picking flowers and climbing trees… Oran berries are my favorite…”

The wolf furrows his brow and bats a pebble aside with his paw. Why aren’t there any normal people in the world? I don’t want to cause any trouble. Why do you have to be so mean?

Skyler sighs again and dismally rises to his feet. “Looks like I’m going back home after all…” The canine pads away toward the cave he’d temporarily claimed as a den. He would sleep there tonight, and then tomorrow, back to the family...
