No one was quite sure at first what had happened. Little Mary had been sick for a few weeks, throwing up every morning and with a gradually-swelling tummy. Her worried parents took her to doctor after doctor, terrified that she had a tumor of some kind. Finally they were referred to, of all things, a gynecologist. She took various samples from Mary and returned to her parents with some shocking news----they were going to be grandparents! Barely three years old, Mary was going to be the youngest mother on record. She didn't seem to understand much about what was happening to her, though eventually her father was able to extract from her the fact that her older brother's friend had pulled her big-girl underwear down and 'peed white stuff' all over her little girl vulva. An internal examination revealed that Mary had probably begun menstruating at around a year old---she was now as fertile as she would ever be, and thus those wayward sperm had 'caught' inside her. (Her brother's friend mysteriously disappeared shortly after this came to light, as did her father's old hunting rifle. The rifle was eventually returned to its place in the shed, minus one shell.)

The safest thing would be to allow her to give birth naturally, and then either put the child up for adoption or raise it as her sibling. For Mary's part, once the 'tummy-yuckies'---her term for morning sickness---passed she seemed to quite enjoy being pregnant. She'd frequently roll her shirt up to reveal her bump, and liked to have her friends at daycare feel the baby in her belly. Her parents soon realized, however, that her bump was growing faster than should have been expected and seemed larger than normal for as far along as she was. Back to the doctor they went. It was eventually revealed that:
