With those final words, Kathrine stormed off to the master bedroom. As she stormed out Ashley awkwardly sat between her father and brother, all too ashamed to move. As they sat there staring blankly at what was playing on the screen, Kathrine had decided to turn in early for the night. As she laid in bed, she ruminated on what she had done. She knew she was more then in the right with her verbal lashing towards them, but she couldn't help but feel she too was in some way responsible.
Her husband had been so sweet in their Highschool years. He was kind, caring, and always paying attention to her needs. After graduation they had decided to get married and live out their idyllic life. Things had started fine, she stayed home and managed the upkeep while her husband had worked as an intern. As time went on they just stayed in their roles. As time went on her husband had settled into a routine with his work. She never mentioned this to him before or even tried to drag him away. She had just let him continue this, pouring his all into his work only to come home completely burnt out.
Even the current state of her kids were partially her fault to. Ashley and David were both polar opposites of each other. Ashley was out going, active, and was always making friends. Her "friends" however, had been people who clearly didn't have the same values as she had tried to instill in her kids. Whenever she had tried to bring this up with Ashley, Ashley would always snap back and shut down. David spent most of his time on the computer, isolated from other people. He had been so sure he could turn his Youtube channel into a career, at least that's what he's said for the last 2 years. Her son was completely unmotivated to do anything other then staring at his screen. She had barely tried to get him away, showing him job listings, and even trying to get him involved in the local community center. He had always shown apathy to the suggestions and gone right back to the computer. She would have tried harder with them, but there were always chores and meals to make.
The blame for her children and husband not paying attention to her and helping her out hadn't laid solely at their feet, she was to blame as well. She had allowed her husband to pour more into his work then their family and allowed her kids to get away with harmful behavior that lead them to where they are now. As sleep crept up behind her, she only wished that things could change. As she slumbers away, what decides to answer her call?
