“It has been a while since I saw Jackie”, you said to yourself. “I think I’ll pay him a visit.” Before heading to your car, you gave Barbara a call to let her know you were leaving. The two of you moved in together after both of your kids had grown and had started a life on their own. The two of you fooled around every now and then, but you didn't consider the two of you to be a couple. For some reason, Barbara hadn't aged a day for all of these years, her body still looking just as young and fit as ever.
After chatting with your friend, you headed out to your company to visit Jack. You chuckled to yourself as you thought about how he normally reacted to your visits. Sometimes he was overjoyed to see you and you had lunch and talked about how things were going, and other times you acted like he was still your little boy and coddled him, embarrassing him in front of his employees. “Mooooommm, cut it out! I’m not a little kiiiid!”, he’d whine, making him look like a fussy little child and bringing the other employees to laugh.
Soon, you got to the parking garage and entered the building, meeting up with one of the guards and flashing your ID on your way in. “Good afternoon, Miss Harper”, greeted Wendi, a rather muscular, but curvy brunette. “What brings you here today?”
“Hello, Wendi. Just stopping by to check up on my little boy”, you chuckled.
“Hehe, I’m sure he’ll be happy to see you”, she said. “He is in a meeting right now, though, and I can’t be sure of how long he’ll be.” She suddenly began to sniff the air. “Is that… butterscotch?”
You gulped and smiled uneasily. “Well, I’ll just, er, check up on things while I’m here”, you said as you quickly walked past the guard.
“Uh, alright then.”
You walked into the building and sighed in relief as you looked around. So much had changed since your son took over. There were only around twenty people working for you when you first started the company, and Jack now employed more than triple that amount. Since your son was in a meeting right now, it couldn’t hurt to take a look around and see what was new.
