This choice: Take Jill and her friends to a convention. • Go Back...Chapter #3Convention Trip by: Derpus You struggled with the weight of an old box, dusting it off before opening it and smiling. "Hope this still fits...", you said as you took out a long purple gown. You had made plans with your granddaughter, Jillian, to go with her to a convention in town today, along with her girlfriend, Ana, and her twin sister, Kat. You were happy that Jill had found someone to be with, and even happier that the cute, nerdy girl was kind to her. You had often worried that your tiny granddaughter would have trouble finding love due to her condition, which was why you were happy that Jack had found love so early in life.
You held the gown up to your body and were happy to see that it still fit you since you last wore it, though it showed off your curves a bit more now. The gown was from a Toriel costume that you made one Halloween. You and the children had costumes based off of characters from the video game Undertale. Despite it being decades ago, you still remembered it vividly. Jack had a costume based off of Asriel, and Mary had dressed as Frisk. Even Barbara had dressed as Muffet, though you can't remember a time she didn't use Halloween as an excuse to dress up in sexy costumes. You shuddered briefly, as you remembered that was the year you had gotten the Gooey Flu and you were still waiting for Jack's father to send you the medication. After convincing you to let the kids go trick or treating on their own for a bit, you wound up being flattened beneath Barbara and spent the rest of the night in her belly while Jack spent the night at Tina's... Though, not before she had some fun while in character. At least she kept the costume in good condition.
"Well... At least no one remembers that", you say to yourself as you get dressed. You put in your gown and your false horns and ears. You had dyed your hair platinum blonde several weeks ago for the occasion before you had run out of medication. Standing in front of a mirror, you posed for a few minutes, happy with your look before you drove off to pick up your granddaughter and her friends. When you drove up to your son’s house (Jack was at work, as he usually was, and Mary was with him at a meeting), you couldn’t help but smile. Ana was dressed as Annie from Splatoon (rather fitting, you thought), and Jill was wearing a small costume that resembled a clownfish, likely meant to be Moe. Ana was cuddling with her tiny girlfriend while her sister, Kat, was playing basketball in the driveway and was dressed in casual clothes. Her slender, athletic build and somewhat tomboyish attitude reminded you of your niece of the same name (who had since grown up and moved away), though this Kat was much more social and outgoing. This contrasted heavily with her sister, Ana, who was much more shy and quiet, and remained mostly indoors. The girls noticed your car and soon hopped inside, with Ana and Jill sitting in the front.
“Hello, girls”, you greeted. “Good job on the the couple costume”, you said.
“Um, th-thank you, Miss Harper”, Ana said shyly, just a bit above whisper level as she blushed at your compliment.
“Thanks, Grandma Trish”, Jill said. “Your costume looks great, too.”
“Yeah”, Kat said as she gulped down a bottle of water. “Really, your everything looks great. How’re you able to stay in such great shape at your age?”, the athletic girl asked.
You blushed a bit at her question. It sort of sounded like she was hitting on you for a moment. “I… I just take excellent care of my body”, you answered.
“My mom says that… um, it’s because of all of your interaction with Jack”, said Ana. “That’s why all of our moms have such great skin.”
“That means there’s a good chance you’ll stay looking this cute, too”, said Jill.
You couldn’t help but smile as Jill made Ana turn bright red as she smiled and hugged Jill tightly. You admit you were a bit jealous of them, but they were too adorable together. “So how come you didn’t dress up, Kat?”, you asked.
“Ehh… cosplaying isn’t really my thing”, she said. “It’s just too much work for something I’m only gonna wear once.”
“You could easily reuse it”, you said. “But I see what you mean. It can get a little pricy, depending on how good you want it to look.”
The three of you continued to talk until you made it to the convention center. Once there, you headed to the table to buy passes for you and the girls, though one of the girls working there seemed familiar. “Jenny? Jenny Morrison? Is that you?”
The girl turned around and looked up, briefly squinting and waved over at you, though she seemed to be embarrassed to be here. Jenny was the oldest daughter of Andrew Morrison, Jack’s friend since early childhood, making her Barbara’s granddaughter. She was around 21 from what you remember, and she had an incredible body. She looked like almost a spitting image of her grandmother, though her hair was red rather than blonde, and she didn’t seem to be as well-toned as Barbara. You remember helping Barbara watch her when her father was at work, but you hear that she’s become very lazy in her young adult years, preferring to stay home and watch TV or go to the beach or swimming pool than work. “Oh, hey Miss Harper”, Jenny greeted, forcing a smile.
“I didn’t know you worked at the convention center”, you said. “It’s great to see you.”
“Yeah, uh, you too”, Jenny said. “My dad kinda… made me work here. Said I was too old to be doing nothing all day. It was either get a job, or get out.”
“Well, that’s just part of life, sweetie”, you said. “We all have to work to provide for ourselves.”
“Yeah, but!”, Jenny interrupted. “You’re a lot older than my dad, and you don’t have to work. Maybe you could… I dunno…”
You sighed as you handed her some money. “I’m retired and I founded a very successful company. I’ve still had to work, Jenny.”
The girl quickly grabbed the money and smiled. “Thank you, Miss Harper. I promise I’ll-”
“*ahem*”, you cleared your throat. “That was for the passes, Jenny.”
The girl looked down and her smile quickly faded. “Oh… right… Sorry.” Jenny put the money in the cash box and handed you four lanyards. “*sigh* Have a great day”, she said as she sat back down, looking rather upset.
You shook your head and took the lanyards over to the girls and headed inside the convention center, which you immediately noticed was packed with people. It didn’t take long for you to lose the girls among the sea of attendees. Not wanting to end up pancaked between anyone, you quickly found a wall and headed over and decided to wait until the crowd died down a bit to find the girls.
After a few minutes of waiting, someone approaches you. Who is it? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
