Eager to buy some new equipment, you start walking through the main street, following the crowd of merchants, commoners, and artisans down to the marketplace. About halfway to the market, you begin to notice political slogans drawn on the side of several buildings, in blood-red paint... Messages like DOWN with the Monstrous TIRANNY!, The Daughters of Antiuck will NEVER be DEFEETED!, GLORY to the SISTERHOOD of Divine Protection and AGAINST the Foot FILTH, and FOR the Grace of Our LADY!
But your gaze was drawn to one sentence in particular: DEATH TO THE CONTESSA, traitor of the Sisterhood! A cluster of female guards toiled over the graffito, keeping curious eyes like yours at bay, while doing their best to bleach the paint off the wall. As you stopped to ponder on their largely unsuccessful work, a rough female voice pulls back into reality with a jolt:
"Stranger, would you believe me if I told you that twenty years ago no monster boy dared to step within 100 miles of this city? Would you believe that three-hundred Daughters of Antiuck just held a fort against an army of two-thousand orcs and goblins? Would you believe that Antiuck, her vassals and protectorates have enough women and men to vanquish the Monster King's forces two times over? If they were led by the right person..."
You turned your head toward the dark alley whence came those words, and squinting, you managed to catch sight of an elegant figure hidden in the shadows. "Who-who's there?" you muttered into the darkness.
"Just another thorn on the Monster King's slimy heel." she answered mysteriously, before turning the question back onto you. "What's really interesting is who you are... I could see that gleam in your eye when you first arrived at the city - you've got come here not to flee, but to fight! I respect that. And if you choose to help the Sisterhood fulfill its Goddess-given purpose, then I will respect you not only as a fighter, but as a brother-in-arms. But if you choose to fight for the Traitor, to fight for the Contessa... then, I will have not choice but respect you as an enemy, and nothing else. So... who are you going to fight for?"
