"I think I will take the playing cards." Jason replied as he got out a couple dollars to cover the anticipated cost. He looked over at the young woman and noticed that she seemed to be laughing at him. Not really knowing what she was laughing at him for, Jason asked. "What?"
"I'm sorry, but a couple of 'bucks' isn't going to cover the cost of this deck of cards." She replied to him as she brought her hands up to help emphasize the phrase.
"Well then how much will you take for it?" He wondered as his gaze started to focus more on the cards, almost as if he longed for them to go home with him.
The woman looked at Jason's gaze and knew that the magic of the store had done it's job and helped once more in securing owners for it's many items. "Hmm..." She feigned thinking, the magic of the store instantly told her how much money was in their pockets. "I think 32.87 will cover what these cards can do."
Jason's eyes grew a couple sizes when he heard the price, but the magic of the shop made him want it even more. "Okay." He quietly replied to her as he quickly got out the money and gave it to her. "Why do they cost so much?"
Jason watched as the sparkle in the young woman's eyes. "Well, these cards allow the winner to swap something about themselves with one of the losers."
"Like money or possessions?" Jason wondered as his gaze was finally broken with the young woman.
"Mortals, always thinking about money and other possessions." She quietly said to herself as she shook her head. "Try bigger, like what makes a person a person." She looked over at Jason and noticed that he seemed little confused. She sighed. "You can trade physical and mental traits with other people."
"I still think you're trying to pull one over on me." Jason chuckled as he looked back over to the deck of cards, which seemed to call his name. "But I will take it." He quickly handed over the money and clutched his new possession close to his chest as he met his family back at the entrance.
