Chapter #4

Go out and rider your horse

    by: AridWD
You decide to go out and take good ole' Mel from the barn and ride her. Ever since you were a kid, you had played and ridden only Mel. With her reddish-brown coat and mane, she was always taken care by you and polished.

Coming into the barn, you greeted the horses in their shelter. All of them seemed to understand you as they gruffed and neighed in excitement. The only one that didn't neigh was Mel who patiently awaited you to come over. When you within her reach, she reached out with her head licked you on the cheek.

You chuckle, "That's enough, Mel. Let's go for a good ole' ride, okay?"

Mel neighed in agreement and waited for you to unlock the barrier. All the other horses seemed to grumble at the special treatment Mel got, but they also understood she and the human son were closer than anyone.

They exited out of the barn together and you easily fitted on top of Mel's back without requiring any saddle. She was gentle in her movements to ensure you didn't go flying off her when she sped up.

She ran around the acre of land and you closed your eyes, enjoying the breeze the came with it. You rubbed her neck and sighed.

"Well, my parents are gone for a full two weeks for their honeymoon, so it'll just be me, you, and the rest of the animals. It's not like I need the help though."

Mel seemed to be surprised by this announcement as she hadn't heard it from her owners. As they reach back to the barn, a glint appeared in Mel's eyes though you couldn't see it.

"Alright then, that was nice, but it's back to work," you grunt as you hop down her back and brushed your hands away from her any fur that stuck to you. You moved to the barn to unlock the rest of the houses so they could roam around the barn and get some sunlight, but Mel surprised you by grabbing your collar with her teeth.

You nearly slide but keep your balance. You try to wriggle away and stare at Mel confused. "Mel? What are you doing? Come on girl, I can't keep playing with you."

Mel let go of your collar now that she had your attention. She lowered her head for a moment, pondering a decision she would make before lifting her head and staring resolutely into your eyes.

"Alex, is it true your parents will be gone for the two weeks?"

...

You froze, a smile in place but your eyes were widened.

You have the following choices:

1. You scream.

2. You shake your head and chuckle, thinking you drank too much coffee.

3. Something else.
