This choice: Coffee tasting with Haru.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #6

On The Cafe Floor

    by: Silverhammer Author IconMail Icon
(Spoilers for the fifth palace and Haru's confidant.)

Akira held the door open for Haru as the two stepped into the coffee shop. He glanced around, taking in the sights and smells of the place. This new shop seemed much lower key than the ever luxurious (and pretentious) hotel buffet he kept finding himself dragged to. Hopefully this meant the coffee itself would be less... experimental... than his and Haru's last outing. To be safe, though, Akira just had to ask...

"This coffee doesn't have elephant poop in it, right?"

Haru giggled. "No, Akira-kun. I promise I wouldn't do that to you twice. Now, why don't you order our coffee, and I'll find us a table."

Akira nodded, and watched Haru briefly as she made her way over to the tables before turning to look over the menu above the counter. He found it difficult to focus on choosing coffee, however, as his thoughts lingered on his newest friend and the problems she'd been having lately. Between her suspicions about her father's successor at Okumura foods and her continuing troubles with her arranged marriage, Haru was dealing with far too much, and one of Akira's goals for this afternoon was to figure out a way to lighten her load, or at least give her a sympathetic ear.

Suddenly, a strange sense of dizziness overcame him. Oh no, he thought. Takemi's medicine. The side effects must have been delayed. Oh, I hope this doesn't... embarrass... Haaaaaruuuuuuu...

An indeterminate amount of time later Akira's eyes blinked open as he resumed consciousness. The fluorescent lights of the cafe's ceiling were above him, seemingly as far away as the sky, though he wrote that off as vertigo from the medication. With a grunt, he worked his way up to his feet, his first thought to find Haru and assure her he was alright. That's when he noticed something was wrong.

The floor seemed to stretch for miles. In the distance, gigantic feet attached to proportionately gigantic legs could be seen, occasionally moving and creating loud booms. Akira dared to crane his neck upward, confirming his fears. These were the customers in front of him in line, impossibly gigantic and so wrapped up in their own business that they didn't notice a teenager collapse and shrink directly behind them.

Yes... shrink. Akira had shrunk. And if the scale of the people in front of him was anything to go by, he was the size of a bug, if that.

Before he could finish processing that, a series of quakes knocked him to the ground. His reflexes as a Phantom Thief dulled by the lingering dizziness from his sudden change in stature, he only barely rolled out of the way as a massive wall of black leather slammed into the ground less than a meter (from his perspective) away from him. He looked up, seeing a massive white column with a black floral pattern, ending in what he recognized as a massive version of the skirt for the girl's uniform at his school, ending even further up beneath an equally recognizable field of pink. Haru's face loomed above, innocent yet threatening in its massiveness, as she looked around, brow furrowed in confusion.

"That's strange. I wonder where Akira-kun went..."

Haru checked her phone, presumably to check if Akira sent her a message. Reminded that his phone existed, Akira quickly moved to get it out and text his massive teammate, only to find it had slipped from his pocket. Sighing, he glanced underneath Haru's gigantic foot, and with his Thief Eye immediately spotted the shattered, unsalvageable remains of his precious phone.

"Well, that's less than ideal," Akira sighed. He needed to come up with a way to get Haru's attention before the situation got any worse...
