"Woah, look at this!" Ryuji hovered the cursor over a folder nestled in the far corner of Futaba's incredibly cluttered desktop. "Has she been keeping tabs on what we've been doing?"
"That could be problematic if those were ever made public..." Yusuke said with a grim tone.
"It's Futaba, though!" Ann reasoned. "Isn't she, like, the best hacker in the world? There's no way anyone could find these."
Morgana tilted his head. "Ryuji did."
An uncomfortable silence hung over the group as Ann's expression changed to one of true horror.
"...Yeah, we should check this out," Ann decided in light of the harrowing realization the group had just shared. Ryuji uttered some ungentlemanly words under his breath for a moment before clicking into the folder. Several documents were listed in its contents. The group couldn't make heads or tails of the filenames - aside from Futaba's usual cryptic means of labelling everything with abbreviations and codes that they didn't recognize, most of the documents also had long-winded titles.
Makoto read the names aloud. "'Makoto Takes Tokyo', 'Futaba and the Beanstalk', 'Haru Tramples the Competition', 'A Story Where Akira Just Fucking Eats Me'-" Makoto bit her tongue as she realized what she had said and the potential sexual implications, whilst everyone else slowly turned to face Akira.
As always, if Akira had any opinions on the matter, he wasn't showing them on his face. If anything, he looked just as perplexed as they did.
Ann cleared her throat, trying to move past the moment as quickly as possible. '"What's with all these goofy names? They sound like the sort of titles Yusuke gives his paintings all the time."
"That's true," Yusuke replied, before the words Ann had said fully sunk in. "Wait, my titles are 'goofy'-?"
"They don't sound like records of any events I'm familiar with..." Morgana said, still eyeing the files with a suspicious glance.
Ryuji snickered to himself. "Yeah, I think we'd have heard about the last one on that list."
"RYUJI!" Ann snapped, giving him a glare so fiery that it made her Persona look cold as ice.
(Akira tugged his collar quietly.)
The sound of footsteps from the staircase was heard, although none of the teenagers crowded around the laptop turned to address Haru. Sighing and relenting to her curiosity, Haru walked over, stirring her cup of coffee with a sugar-coated spoon. "What did we find?"
"See for yourself," Yusuke said, gesturing to the screen.
Haru leaned closer, reading the names of the files, and immediately recognized the documents for what they were. She leaned back, blushing red. "Sh-she writes about us too?!"
"'Too'...?" Makoto asked.
Haru shakily brought her cup of coffee to her lips, pretending not to have heard Makoto.
Ryuji raised an eyebrow, but said nothing else, turning back from Haru to the screen. "So just what the hell are these about, then...?" Ryuji trailed the cursor over the more-than-a-dozen files he could see.
"Open one and find out," Akira suggested.
Ann sighed. "Why do I have a bad feeling about this...?"
(Haru tugged her collar quietly.)
Ryuji did as commanded, clicking on the most recent file to be edited. The word processor loaded, depicting paragraph after paragraph of what the group safely assumed to be Futaba's handiwork. The blonde-haired boy cleared his throat, reading the first line... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
