I set about the room, picking up loose papers from the floor, sweeping up pencil sharpenings from the desks and tucking chairs back under tables. It always amazed me how easily a class of students could leave the place looking like a bombsite, even when they were young adults themselves.
Eventually the room was back in shape. Luckily I had a free period next, so I wouldn't have to worry about the whole place being immediately destroyed once again. I noticed that one of my wall displays had begun to get a little loose, but I could probably fix that another time.
I dusted my hands off and walked to the corridor. It was deathly quiet, the students all being outside for their lunch break. It meant I had a wonderful hour of so ahead of me for peace and relaxation. And marking. I shuddered at the prospect.
