A guy in a hurry bustled passed Piper, yacking away on his cell phone. He turned briefly to acknowledge her, and the spilled cake stuck to the floor, and shrugged as he headed out the door.
"Yeah, fuck you TOO asshole!" Piper yelled after him, loud enough the employees to jump, before realizing a fight wasn't going to happen, and sipping back into their routine. It made Piper feel better for a moment. But only for a moment. After that the depression and gnawing anxiety of poverty sunk in. She numbly watched as an employee brought a push broom and started cleaning up the sad remains of the cake and the scattered cookies across the floor. God, was there anything sadder than a spilled cake?
There was no money to get another one. There was, honestly, no money for that one, but she had tapped into their remaining reserves anyway. And that money would be gone forever. Because thee was no money coming in, just a dwindling supply.
And Piper was tired of it. As she left Big Burger she came to a decision. She was going to have to turn their financial situation around, above all, she was going to turn HER financial situation around, no matter what it took.
---
That night, Piper set to work with trembling fingers. Parker was out on the town, hopefully she'd be gone until dawn. But her mother was in the other room, behind paper thin walls. She had explained the situation, and Harper understood, but she could tell it was a blow to her. Sometimes Piper wondered how much the food cravings were the result of pregnancy, and how much of them were her way of dealing with the stress of finances.
Well, Piper reminded herself, she was fixing that. If her mother barged in, she would explain that, and understand, she hoped. Maybe she even would be grateful! Maybe. It was a household full of liberated women, kind of.
Piper took a picture of her learners permit, and uploaded it to her computer. The birthdate clearly indicated that she was 18 years old…for the last 4 days. The birthday party had been rather subdued this year. Still, it counted. This would all be legal and above board.
Next she took a picture of herself. The kind of selfie she usually avoided. She tugged at the neckline of a halter top she had stolen from Parker giving the camera a lens full of olive cleavage. Some clever cropping hid her hand, and the fact that her shirt couldn't possibly hang like that, and even the fact that there was a limit to her cleavage. It just plunged off the bottom of the frame, making it seem like she had boobs as big as you could imagine.
A profile name, and a few minutes to for them to verify her ID and she was ready. This was happening. Piper Black, Cam Girl. She had thought about this a while, even before her father left. It's not like they could ever turn down the money, and when you're stacked like Piper, you don't make it through puberty without a few men 'suggesting' a few ways to make easy money. But now, pushed over by this latest desperation, Piper couldn't imagine not taking the easy money. "Let's do this." she said, before turning on the cam, and opening a room.
And then…nothing. There was no one there. For twenty long, agonizing minutes. And during that time the butterflies in her stomach died and turned sour. The first one popped in then immediately logged off. That hurt her confidence even more.
But eventually someone came in and started chatting with her. He wasn't spending money, so Piper just chatted with him a little while.
"It's my first time, lol. I have no idea what I'm doing"
"Aw, that's fine gurl. You got all the necessary qualification there, lol. What cup size are you?"
"K cup."
"Damn!"
And with that, Piper got her first tip. It was only the equivelant of fifty cents in tokens, but it boosted her confidence a little that this wasn't a huge mistake. One person became a couple, she did a few private shows with them getting topless, but for the most part, she just hung out in a chatroom for the night, talking to strangers. Not thrilling, but not bad either. And by the end of the night, she had made fifty dollars. She did some quick math in her head, and realized she made like 15 dollars an hour. That was better than a real job!
