Steve settled on Derek. His son had been doing exceptionally at football lately, but when it came to his grades he was lacking. Debbie and Steve didn't expect him to be at the top of his class, but they did expect a certain standard of respect and hard work out of their son. This included finishing his homework and studying, two things Derek had zero interest in. His report card grades had been on a steady decline, and when Debbie and Steve had sat down to talk to him about them it had gone poorly, with Derek storming off swearing at them. Steve decided that it was high time he put his son in his place, and remind him who the man of the house was.
"Derek!" Steve yelled sternly, leaning against the doorframe.
"Dad! Uh... hey. You're home early." Derek recoiled at the sound of his father's voice. He knew he was in trouble.
"I took the day off work today. The real question is, why are you taking the day off school today?" Steve lowered brows lowered. Derek hadn't even made it through half of the school day before ditching, it was unbelievable. "Your grades must have gone up considerably since last time if you feel comfortable enough to skip class."
"I, uh..." Derek trailed off, eyeing his backpack leaning against the side of the house. He had just gotten a test back that morning, receiving a big old F. Derek had left school early to cool off, royally pissed that any of his teachers would flunk one of the schools best football players. Shooting hoops had been his way of blowing off steam but, the appearance of his father temporarily knocked all the wind out of his sails.
"...sorry Dad." Derek mumbled.
"What was that son? You're going to have to speak up."
"I said sorry Dad." Derek avoided his Dad's gaze, not wanting to receive any more of his ire.
Steve rolled his eyes. There was only one way his son would learn respect, and that would be with a bit of punishment. Steve whipped out the gun, pointed it at Derek, and shot.
