This choice: Byleth finds another way to relay Bernie's height to Hilda. • Go Back...Chapter #11As Tall as a Hand by: Mathoo Byleth feared for how Hilda would react upon seeing Bernie. He knew that Hilda bore Bernie no ill will, but he also knew that Hilda adored cute things - and there was no way that at her current size, Bernie would not qualify as cute. And Bernie was already afraid of people, without them being giant and over-affectionate.
But at the same time, she did need to have some form of understanding of Bernie's new size, in order to make her a bed and any other amenities that Hilda believed her shrunken now-classmate would need.
Luckily, Byleth quickly came up with a solution. He raised his hand to the pocket containing Bernie, gently placing the heel of his palm against the pocket's seam. It seemed Bernie had caught on to his intent, because he feels her stand up a bit straighter, trying to dig her feet deep into the pocket so his reading would be as accurate as possible.
"She is about as tall as hand," Byleth says, removing the aforementioned limb and holding out towards Hilda. "Specifically, from the base of the palm, to this knuckle," he says, wiggling the tip of his middle finger."
Hilda sighs, realizing that she was not going to get to see the cuteness that was the shrunken student in her professor's pocket. But she knew she couldn't argue with him about this, so she holds her hand to his. Interestingly, her hands were larger than his, but her fingers were more slender - though not by much. She, too, seemed surprised by the comparison between their two hands, as if she expected his to be rougher.
"You said you want me to make a bed for her, right?" Hilda asks.
Byleth nods. "And anything else you think she may need."
Hilda smiles, though still tinged with disappointment that she wasn't going to experience the cuteness. "I'll get to work right away." Perhaps if she finished quickly, she could find her out of the pocket in the professor's room? Shaking her head in an attempt to prevent that thought from affecting her face, she turns to leave.
Byleth then turns and says... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
