Byleth smiles. "Yeah. Bernie likes drawing and writing stories, but writing utensils aren't gonna be useable at her size. I was thinking that maybe, you could convince like, a hummingbird to let her use one of their shed feathers."
Marianne smiles slightly. Talking to animals was one of the few things that gave her happiness. "I can do that!" Then something else occurs to her. "Doesn't she...doesn't she also like knitting? I remember seeing a pair of knitting needles outside her room once."
Byleth nodded, remembering that. He'd returned them to Bernie when he saw them.
Marianne continues smiling. "I can maybe get a few shed needles from a hedgehog. I prefer talking to birds and horses, but hedgehogs are nice to talk to, too. Then using thin thread she can make herself clothes."
Upon hearing this, Bernie cautiously peeks out of the pocket, smiling. "Th-thank you, M-Marianne?" the hesitation in her voice seemed to be more because she was trying to remember the larger woman's name, than actual fear.
The fact that Bernie was not as afraid of Marianne as she was of other people, intrigued Byleth. Was it the blue-haired woman's nearly-emotionless demeanor - after all, that was similar to the reason that she was comfortable around Byleth himself? Or maybe it was because of Marianne's connections with animals more than people - considering the reason Bernie was afraid of people, that would make sense as well.
But Bernie doesn't peek out for long, likely because it wasn't just Marianne out around here. She ducks back down into the pocket, and this time, she curls up. She'd been mostly standing before, but she needed to sit.
Meanwhile, Byleth was trying to think. He had not been planning on one of his students shrinking today -
Well, technically she wasn't your student at the time, Sothis reminded him.
Byleth shrugged her off. He had been teaching her class at the time she shrank. That made her his student, even if it was a temporary arrangement at the time.
He hadn't been planning on one of his students shrinking today, so he didn't have a checklist prepared. He'd had her transferred to his class permanently to make keeping her safe easier, he'd made preparations to get her a place to sleep, and he'd even managed to start the process of procurring tools that would allow her to continue her hobbies - and to make more clothes for herself.
