Jake goes straight for the sheriff's office

Jake decides that if he was gonna get anywhere in this place, he needs help from the locals. Even if this "Texas" let so much crime happen on her watch, bad law enforcement is better than none at all. He makes his way down the street to where April said the sheriff's office was. His walk through town is met with just as many stares and whispered comments as when he entered.

Sure enough, at the end of the street was a building with the word "SHERIFF" in big bold letters on the front. Even a poor gambler could win this guessing game. Wanting to get off the street quick, Jake opens the door and walks in. Just inside, her sees April from before talking to a female... rat? gerbil? rodent?

"Swear to God Texas, he was some kind of hairless ape dressed up like a bird. He looked like one of them acrobat people at the circus. Had a name like one too. 'Birdboy' he called himself." She says with a chuckle.

"I see what you mean April." The rodent replies. When April gives her a look of confusion, she points the fox's attention to the door where the hero stood. "He came in while you were laughing about him." April realizes her mistake and backs off to let the two speak.

"So you're this sheriff Texas I heard so much about? I gotta say, I wasn't expecting you to be some kind of rodent." She looks angered by the hero's words.

"That's 'weasel' to you son, you'd best remember that. But I'm sure you're not here to split hairs and neither am I. Let's just get right down to brass tacks... Birdboy, was it?" He nods. "So, what are you? Where are you from? And most importantly, what are you doing here in Gold Springs?"
