"Mrs. Pit." Jake said quietly, which didn't stop Beth from almost choking on her coffee.
Thankfully, no one noticed.
"What!?" She hissed, a blush barely adorning her cheeks.
"She's aged really well," Jake hastily said in reassurance, "especially after that whole Werecat thing you two had. Barely looks older than she did back then, even spryer on her feet from what the footage I've seen, and--"
"What," Beth hissed back, "still lusting for me? To use me?"
"That's not what she was--"
"I don't--" Beth cut herself off to calm herself down, momentarily drawing the attention of other patrons before they turned back to what they were doing, "I don't care. She used me to become stronger as a werecat; the fact that I was turned to was just something she didn't want. Hence why she came for me."
Jake rubbed his temple, having done this song and dance with her before, and just decided to continue what he was saying before.
"And she's in full control of her stink and powers." He said.
Beth merely lifted her cup, stalled a sip, and said, "So." Before taking a sip.
"So she could help us." Jake said. "Majorly. Especially since she was a biology teacher."
Beth nearly shattered her cup from how passive aggressively she set it down, almost spilling her half empty drink. "I--"
"Know." Jake interrupted. "But are you--" he looked around to make sure no one was paying attention to them, and returned his attention to her once he saw there wasn't.
"Are you really willing to put people in danger just because you don't want to get past this?" He asked.
Beth didn't answer.
"You're making me, the guy that was skeptical of that whole thing, vouche for her, Beth." He said. "You realize that?"
Still no answer.
"I'm not asking you to be buddy buddy," he continued, "just work together so we can--"
"Fine." Beth said, setting down some bills.
"W-what?" Jake said, caught of guard.
"Get her if you want." Beth said standing up. "But don't expect me to like it...or her."
She turned away and left, the bell above the door ringing to signify that a patron had left the building.
After a moment of silence, Jake sighed.
"We both know you still do." He said, finishing his cup, paying for it, and leaving himself. Getting into his limo and heading toward the prison.
