Chapter #3

Morning for Polly.

    by: gulliverstoy Author IconMail Icon
Her reaction to simply run away was nothing more than a inner instinct reaction. Honestly there was few places she could go to. She happened upon a young girl who, so far at least, seemed kind and honest with her. Even if there was a chance she just wanted her as a toy, wasn't it better than alone in the wilderness the size of a person's finger? Where any number of creatures, animal or human, who'd only do her harm. It was no small miracle that she survived as long as she had before she bumped into Ellie. Polly could feel the vibrations throughout the dollhouse of the girl's footfalls, like a small earthquake. Lost in her thoughts she failed to notice the soft snoring had stopped and Ellie had woke. The light from the bedroom window darkened as it was replaces by Ellie's giant mocha colored eye. It receded and the room shook as the giant girl pulled away the wall to the entire front face of the house.

"Morning, Polly!", Ellie said excitedly. She rested her hands on the edge of the second floor as she leaned her face into the room smiling.

"Good morning, Ellie.", Polly replied as she pulled the blanket closer to herself defensively. "Uh... thank you for letting me stay here."

Polly giggled. "Sure! Did you sleep ok?"

"Yeah, actually....," Polly chuckled. "It was the best sleep I've had since...." She trailed off as she thought of how long she'd been alone and like this.

Ellie could sense the change in mood and switched the subject. "Hey, I know. Would you like to take a bath?" Polly looked at her confused at first, then she looked down herself. "I bet a nice bath would make you feel better. You're kinda dirty." Polly looked at her dirty self hoping she didn't get the nice clean bed filthy. "....and smelly.", Ellie added. Polly gasped and stared up at Ellie. They looked at each other for a brief moment before they both started laughing. It felt so good to hear herself laugh again that Polly felt herself loosen her grip on the bed sheets.

Ellie's giant hand slowly entered the room palm up and stopped beside the bed. Polly never got used to the child's enormous hand but, every time, she appreciated that Ellie waited for her to decide on her own to climb onto it. She could have easily forced her will on the diminutive woman by simply grabbing her like one of her toys. But she always allowed for Polly to do it herself. The small woman kicked off the blanket and crawled over to the edge of the expansive bed and climbed onto the soft palm. Once she was settled, Ellie moved her hand out of the room and cupped her other hand beside it for extra safety. As Polly was being swept across the room in the child's hand she sat and thanked her lucky stars that she had come across such a kind girl. She really had no reason to run away from Ellie. Here she was safe. If she was ever to find a way back to normal, she knew she'd do it with Ellie's help.

Seeing a little girl's room the size of a city block rush by you from her palm many stories up is something that can't be explained. Polly stayed in the safety of Ellie's palm watching walls and furniture the size of high rise buildings blur by in a cascade of pinks and whites. She looked up and saw only part of the girl's face from her vantage point. But she could see she was smiling as she carried her little secret friend. Polly realized she too was smiling. Her defenses were beginning to melt away around this mountain of a child. She heard a doorknob click open and she saw a new room that was attached to Ellie's. There was tile on some of the walls and flowery pink wallpaper that looked like some surreal horizon. Ellie brought her hand down to the bathroom counter and stopped as she waited for her tiny passenger to disembark. Polly scooted across the hand and climbed down onto the counter top. The counter was chilly on her bare feet making her shiver a bit. She watched as huge hands and arms went into motion getting her bath ready for her. A hand turned a great faucet handle and water rushed out like a dam releasing out into a basin below. Ellie tested the temp with her hand before finding the right setting and she pulled the sink stopper handle and Polly watched as a huge sink bowl began to fill. Ellie grabbed some of her bubble bath from the tub and poured a little into the water and it began to suds up into a pink foam. Ellie stopped the water, looked down at Polly, and then pulled the stopper a bit before shutting it again after judging it was too deep for her. Satisfied she looked back at Polly and frowned.

"Um... I can leave you by yourself. If you think you'll be Ok." Worry was evident on the girl's face as Polly contemplated her situation. The tiny woman walked to the edge of the basin and looked down the steep slope. "I can help you get in if you want first though...", Ellie said sensing her reservations. "I won't peek. I promise...."
