3 Months Later…
A month give or take, that’s all it took for business to boom. Swann’s was never slow, but they certainly were never this consistently fast. It didn’t take anyone saying it out loud… The boom started not long after that Lili girl visited them. She looked like a big deal, but Alexis would never have imagined the business would flourish twofold within the month… and all she ending up buying were stockings!
The day was quite busy as any other day, but it was manageable as the staff’s numbers increased with the customers. When she arrived, there were 8 workers but now 16 total. It was a nice job to have, nice pay and the schedule lenient.
On break, Alexis opened up the breakroom door to head back out, that’s when she seen a crowd of people. They were crowded around Tiffany, a newer co-worker that Alexis considered to be a friend. She was a nice and kind individual; she would often cover for Alexis whenever she needed to take a short break.
“I-I’m sooo sorry ma’am…” Tiffany apologized.
And the one she was apologizing to was… Lili. “An apology isn’t going to cut it, get your manager.”
Tiffany headed to the back with her shoulders slumped. “Tiffany! What’s going on out there.”
Tiffany on the verge of crying, tried to explain. “I… I accidently bumped into that lady. When I walked over to her I must… I tripped over something b-but I swear I barely touched her; I d-didn’t mean to!”
“Calm down, Tiff. I’ll handle it from here.” Tiff sat down in the breakroom and grabbed some tissue.
Tiffany could by clumsy, she clearly didn’t know how to walk in heels but she obviously wouldn’t intentionally trip into anybody on purpose and in front of all those people, that girl had to embarrass her.
Alexis walked out the breakroom. “Welcome back, Ms. Lili.”
“Are you the manager?” Lili tilted her head.
“No, ma’am… I'm still just an employee.”
“Right, that you are.” Lili scoffed.
The girl’s tone annoying her, Alexis returned it with some bass in hers. “What is your problem?”
“Don’t ever raise your voice at me. You are but an ant and your growing little shop is the anthill. I could easily raise my heel and bring everything crumbling down.” Lili’s eyes reached, Alexis’ soul.
“When are you going to wake up, girl? I am the reason this store is packed and what? No, thank you? Just sass from someone’s who’s just an employee?”
“I… I did everything you wanted when you were last here. What do you want? …Ms. Lili.”
“I just wanted a simple ‘Thank you.’”
This girl came all the way out here for… a thank you? “Sure… Thank you, Ms. Lili. You really helped us out. I’m sure everyone appreciated it.”
“It’s been a while…”
Alexis raised her eyebrow. “Ma’am?”
“It’s been a while since I’ve talked to someone who didn’t know where they stood… Just like that damn Asuka Kazama. That same look in your eyes.”
“I said thank you, again I did everything you asked of me. What more do you want?”
“I want you to mean it. If you don’t respect me then you don’t respect my father and I will not have that. Now… fetch your boss, Alexis.”
Alexis struggled not to mumble anything as she headed back into the breakroom. The manager’s office was down a short hall. Alexis knocked on his door, she told him what happened, and he lowered his head into his palms.
Alexis looked on at her manager talking to Lili through the window of the breakroom door. They were both sitting, and it seems like they were just conversating normally… Until her manager turned around to look at Alexis. She thought she might back off, but it was too late, they both knew she was watching over them. The manager turned back around giving his attention back to Lili. After a while the manager got up and walked her way. Lili got up and waved to Alexis with a devilish smile.
Josh was looking bummed. “What… happened out there?” Alexis asked.
“Hmmph… Miss Lili now owns Swann’s.”
“…Why?”
“Yeah, I asked that too. She told me… because she can.” indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
