After they returned from their dinner, Sandy and Joe were talking privately in their room.
"Well that was some spectacle you put on tonight," Sandy told Joe.
"it wasn't that bad."
"If Rick wasn't your best friend I think he would have decked you."
"I tell you, it wasn't that bad. He knew I was kidding."
"You didn't act like you were kidding."
"I'll talk to Rick. I'll tell him I had too much to drink. I know Rick very well. I've known him longer than I've known you."
"That reminds me, when did you gain such an appreciation for wine."
"I thought I was being refined. It doesn't matter. I'll meet up with Rick tomorrow and straighten everything out. Let's go to bed."
In the morning, Sandy went down to make breakfast, while Joe took a shower and got ready for work. Sandy had a later shift and could get ready a little later than Joe did.
You kept an eye on your father. You wanted to see how he had changed. But it was hard to tell. There was a word or mannerism here or there, but it wasn't too obvious. Joe was fighting with himself. He knew how he felt, but he also knew how he should act. These feelings were at odds within himself.
After breakfast was done, Joe told Sandy, "I'll clean up down here. You get ready for work."
"Thanks dear," they gave each other a quick peck on the lips.
Joe cleaned the table and washed the dishes. He made sure to say goodbye to Sandy before he left for work.
Sandy had finished her shower and was still getting ready. "I like that bra and panty set. It's a good thing the doctors at work don't know what you are wearing under your scrubs." Joe joked. But in truth he did really like the lingerie set. "I have to go. I'll see you tonight."
"You are going to talk to Nick right?"
"Yeah, we are having lunch."
Later that night when Sandy and Joe were alone again in their bedroom, Joe took on a serious tone.
"Sandy," Joe began, "you know I love you. You know I've always loved you."
"What are you trying to say?"
"I love you, but I am IN LOVE with Rick.'
"What!!!"
"You heard me. I think I have been denying my feelings my whole life. I LOVE RICK!"
"What happened?"
"I went to talk to Rick, you know about last night. But before I could, Rick told me of his problems with Leona. I was just trying to understand his problem. You know be sympathetic. It was then I realized my true feelings for Rick."
"You mean you are gay?"
"I don't know what I am. I've felt this way a long time." Joe didn't want to explain his true feelings. He didn't understand them himself, but he knew he had always felt this way. Joe didn't want to make Sandy feel any worse than she did now.
"Have you told Rick?"
"No, I was just a kind ear for him to talk to. There is something wrong with their marriage. I wanted to be there for him."
"What should we do?"
"Let's not worry the kids. Not until we are sure of this."
