Store employee Liam.

Friday: 5:15pm.

"I really don't know why you don't have an invite, everyone else got one." Michael said to Liam, as they were both slacking in the Goods In area, waiting for the shift to end.

Liam shrugged, pretending not to care that he hadn't got an invite to Emma 20th Wedding Anniversary party. But in reality, he was annoyed, incredibly so, since absolutely every other staff member had got an invite address to them in the mail. "Can't say I'm shocked, I'm not exactly popular around here after all. Yeah well, fuck it! I don't need to go to any stupid party." he grumbled.

"If you ask Emma, I'm sure she'd ask you to come." Michael mentioned.

"I'm not begging to anyone, especially my boss. It's not important anyway, like I said, fuck it." he repeated. "Come on, lets make like we're doing something incase Natalie finds us in here and starts bitching at us." he continued, sounding forlorn as he quickly exited the back storage area. Michael just shrugged, then followed him.

The last 15 minutes of the shift went by quickly, and when it was time for everyone to leave, Liam was the first out the door, not saying anything to anyone given his foul mood. Unbe-fucking-lievable. he shook his head, cursing his co-workers. He hated working at Wilko anyway, but sometimes he really despised it. The way his colleagues treated him was atrocious, he thought. He knew he wasn't the best worker, but in his mind, that was hardly an excuse to not invite him to a party that EVERYONE else was invited to. If he didn't need the money he would have quit his job a long time ago. He was that caught up in his own angry thoughts, he didn't notice the strange man in a trenchcoat and a fedora that looked like he was out of a 1940's Film Noir movie.

"Having problems young man?" the coated figure asked, causing Liam to look up, startled. He saw the guy standing there, hands in the deep pockets of his trenchcoat and leaning against a wall. At that time in the day, not many people were left in town, despite it still being daylight.

"Uh, yeah... you could say that. Everyone hates me!" Liam replied, not holding back. "But what's it to you?" he asked straight afterwards.

The man, who had a neatly groomed beard and mustache, smiled wickedly. "Well, I'm in a position to help you with your problems, in a way that nobody else ever could."

"Oh yeah, how's that?" Liam scoffed.

Suddenly, a large 'explosion' of smoke occurred where the man was standing, and Liam recoiled in shock, thinking the guy had spontaneously combusted or something. However, there was no flames, not even a spark, and out of the quickly dissipating smoke... stepped an incredibly curvy, raven-haired woman. She was wearing a similar trenchcoat and a female version of the fedora, with a turned up brim, and she wore a knee-length grey skirt underneath, a plain white blouse open at the collar just visible under her coat, a pair of nylons and a pair of barely black high heel pumps in the typical 1940's style. "Because I'm no ordinary person, that's why." the woman spoke through her crimson-painted lips as she clicked over to Liam, smirking at him.

Liam for his part couldn't believe what he was seeing, and he looked around to see if he could see anyone else who might have seen it, but the street was empty, even his co-workers having already gone home. He looked back at the woman before him and checked her over head to foot, he could make out a sizeable pair of breasts underneath her trenchcoat, and her elegant curves too. Her legs were gorgeous, and her outfit really suited her appearance. "Who are you? A magician of some sort?" he blurted out.

The woman laughed out loud. "Oh, nothing so mundane or... cheap. You can call me Marlowe." she said, picking a name from a well-known Humphrey Bogart film she knew of.

"Then how did you do that trick if you're not a magician?" Liam shrugged, frowning intently.

"Don't trouble your little head," Marlowe chuckled, removing a hand from her pocket and tapping Liam on his forehead, "just know that I can help you get your own back on all those who have wronged you. Would you like that?" she asked, smirking at him.

"Well, yes, I would actually, but how?" Liam again asked.

Marlowe smiled, taking hold of one of Liam's hands. A surge of heat passed into Liam's arm, and he soon felt the warmness run through his entire body, and that feeling was accompanied by a sensation of being high for a moment. Knowledge also flowed into his mind, knowledge of a special and powerful ability to manipulate organic matter in a certain way. In just a few seconds, Liam knew that he now had a strange ability to swap anything between anyone, their body parts, clothing, mental traits, anything. He looked up into Marlowe's face, noticing for the first time just how tall the man-turned-woman was (6'0" in her heels). "Wow..." he mumbled.

Marlowe just kept smiling as she let go of Liam's hand and the warmness subsided. "There you go, you now have all you need. Maybe we'll see each other again Liam, maybe not." she winked, for the first time referring to him by his name, which he hadn't told her.

Liam looked down at his hand for a moment, as the knowledge of his new power swam through his mind. And by the time he looked up again, Marlowe was gone. "Okay, that was weird." he said to himself, scratching his head with his other hand. But he knew what he could do now, and a smirk appeared on his face as his thoughts went back to his co-workers and to Emma's anniversary party tomorrow at the East Dene Social Club. "I guess I'll just invite myself then." he said, his smirk growing into a grin.

He set off towards the bus stop, intending to go home to get some sleep and prepare himself for tomorrow.
