Chapter #6

Exchange of energy.

    by: Nagastener Author IconMail Icon
“They exchange energy intakes between whoever is wearing them!” Stephanie beamed, rocking on her hooves. Judy felt the glassy dryness creeping over her eyes, glazing them as she stared into that wide, bright, worryingly sincere smile. Was… was she really hearing this? She opened her mouth, but her throat shrugged and not even a whimper emerged. “I designed them to highlight trust in relationships!”

All Judy could hear was the steady pumping of blood through her ears, fingers slowly coiling around each other. She was serious. That smile… that dangerously disarming smile just grew, even as the seconds ticked by, even as the bunny felt her paws slicken. She was actually serious? This random shopkeeping goat just stumbled on a potentially revolutionary technology for wireless transfers of… energy?

Her eyes creaked as she finally blinked.

Stephanie seemed to hear. Or at least she took note of the deafening silence from the motionless officer. “Ah… I may not have explained that properly.” Her lips quirked into an awkward grimace, jowls quivering with a subtle shake of the head. “I can see you’re still sceptical.”

Sceptical? Judy raised a paw, but a single draw of breath was not enough to quell the fizz in her core. Just how much infrastructure could be made redundant by this? All the power lines, cables, transformers, to say nothing about engines? All that could be replaced by effortless, wireless transfer by… something… Her eye twitched and the room shimmied and wobbled, hindpaw rising for a steadying thump. And she was supposed to believe that not only had this lone goat invented it, seemingly without any other support, but then… never told anyone about it?

“I just…” Her tongue flicked across her lips. They pursed and she tapped her paw to her chest, coughing. “You invented a means to transfer energy between two items, without any apparent loss or seepage, completely remotely… for couple goals?”

Dull thuds rung out from her rapping paw, lip jutting harshly past her buckteeth.

“Ah… weeell…” Stephanie rolled her eyes before bringing the collar up to them. “That wasn’t my original intention for these. When you put it that way, dearie, I fully understand your hesitancy.”

“Hesitancy?” Judy grumbled, folding her arms and regretting it instantly. She should not be able to feel her own fat pinch under her shoulders, gol’ darn it! Especially not when it broke her no-nonsense frown by making her squeak like that!

Stephanie’s smile returned, somewhat softer. “My original goal was a form of translator, you see. There’s a small unit in the buckle of each to capture and process data. If I could covert the idea in someone’s head into a form of meaningful data, it could then be transferred to others in safe way. Bring greater unity among all of this planet. Make the world a better place, even!” She winked.

Judy chewed her lip again. This goat knew just what to say to keep on buttering her up, but then… Judy glanced down for a moment. What if she did mean it?

“Unfortunately, the prototype wasn’t able to correctly capture or process that data.” Her cheeks bunched into a rueful frown before the room-lighting smile beamed true once more. “However, my equipment was able to record that it was capturing another form of data when I wore it to lunch after that initial test: the calories in my food!”

“Seems… oddly specific.” Judy tugged the collar away from her neck, the lines deepening in her brow as she scrutinised its patterns. Humming, she peered up at the goat through narrowing eyes.

“I know, my dear.” Stephanie brough her free hoof to her expansive bust. “I don’t fully understand it myse-elf!” She shrugged, a giggle hitching her final breath. Judy hummed again. Either a sign of nerves or self-deprecation? “Still I have done some further testing to check their capabilities. Each collar will always capture intake, but it will only be transferred when both are worn by different mammals. If either collar isn’t worn then that energy remains with the lone wearer.” She bopped her hoof, collar swinging merrily. “The collars can only transfer the caloric energy that the wearer consumes, so no physiological effects like drunkenness or feeling full.” A second bop. “And the transfer is only between a single pair.” A third bop, this time joined by a sly grin.

“Riiight…” Judy drawled, frown discarded for a loose-lipped gawp. She could almost applaud the level of detail and the technical language, but… this was a lot of patter for a scam. And what would the in be?

“So they could be used to build bridges between a couple, you see?” Stephanie shone a motherly smile at the orange-flecked band. “”Let them feed and water for a mile in each other’s stomachs, so to speak? Or if you were feeling charitable, or…” Her teeth flashed, surprisingly dangerously for a herbivore… “devious, one could use them to even the scales between two mammals without either changing their habits.”

Judy found herself staring once more, words dying in her throat. Could… could she actually be for real? If this was all a scam… just what would the in be for this goat? A spark, warm and bright and hopeful burned in her chest, dancing around the rational chill around her.

No.

She had to stop it.

Judy blinked.

It was a very nice collar, and she looked forward to wearing it when she had the body to justify it, and she was very grateful for the gift, but… this couldn’t be real.

“I--”

A high, almost squeaky bubbling noise issued from her middle and she groaned before she could even stop herself. Her paw dropped to stroke the apex of her belly -- it had an apex -- and she frowned. Barely more than a whisper of a pang had gripped her belly, and yet she could already taste the zesty creaminess of the carrot cake waiting for her in her fridge. Darn fox. Darn, darn fox. He knew she loved the bakery west of the station. He knew she was starting her diet!

“And…” Judy closed her mouth and whipped her gaze back up to the goat. Stephanie smiled back, soft and warm and comforting. “That brings me back to why I think it would help you with your weight.”

Blinking back the sudden heat in her eyes, Judy let out a soft sigh and ignored her breasts squeezing against her armour. Or just how tight her uniform rasped against her shoulders. Or the buckle still digging into the soft mound practically pouring over it. Ah, yes. The literal elephant in the room.

Her weight.

“Although…” Stephanie tilted her head as she gazed down at Judy. The bunny could practically feel those eyes roving over her soft, podgy frame and her ears stuffed with warmth. “I must say again that you really have nothing to worry about, my dear. You do truly look wonderful.”

Judy bit the now-familiar groove in her lip, struggling to maintain eye contact. “Thanks…”

“Now, I appreciate that I’m on the larger side myself, so I may have my own biases at play, and I don’t know you personally, but you are a strong-hearted, hard-working young bunny from everything I have heard about you.” The heat rose in Judy’s ears and she could feel it tinge her cheeks. “You’re a credit to the city and I doubt those razor-sharp detection skills of yours have been hurt at all by a few extra points, my dear.” Judy gulped. It was maybe more than a few. Her pulse raced and her eyes bored holes in the floor as he cheeks finally bloomed. “And, if I may say…” Stephanie’s voice deepened, timbre dipping into a positively lascivious range… “Those extra pounds have certainly done wonders for your figure.” Judy cringed deeper, the shadow of this strange goat looming over her on the floor, her heart hammering through her chest. Just why did it feel so intense? “I know mammals who would follow those curv--”

“Please!”

Judy gasped, tongue lolling as her lungs cried out for cooler air.

“Stop,” she whispered, her eyes falling closed as she rested her paws on her knees, pads sinking softly into her spandex.

The soft, warm, heavy dome of her belly bulged downwards and she could feel the hem threatening to untuck.

The goat fell silent, their shadows splitting on the tiles below. Beads of sweat trickled from her forehead as she steadied her breathing through deep, juddering gouts. She hadn’t felt… urges like those since she had a second whole slice of blueberry pie at dinner and Nick offered to drive the rest of the shift, smirking at her from across the booth. And she’d just had to sit there, flabby and full and absolutely mortified as the fox paid the cheque, because he told the waitress she couldn’t reach her wallet. Or reach across the booth to punch his stupid, smug, adorable mug!

She put a paw to her chest as the lurches smoothed into heaves, then finally into gentle rises and falls.

What a turn this day took.

1) Judy pauses and reflects on her feelings about her weight, determined to focus on that.

2) Now that she thinks about it, she would like to experience feeling positive about her size. After all, she has her mother as an example, leading Stephanie to suggest other changes to herself (e.g. age, pregnancy, life-swaps).
