Chapter #3

Mel's Wish

    by: WhatYouWant Author IconMail Icon
You witness your mother Mel in front of you, eyes wide in shock. She wasn't one to get out much anymore, and the appearance of a misty buff woman coming out of a magic pot is something that would be sure to disturb her. She was still lightly damp in her bath robe, having just left the show, most likely coming in here to find you. But now 'you' was hardly you, You attempted to communicate to her that her quest was successful, but what came out of your mouth was...

"Mel Finn, mother of two, woman of the world who I now call my master... I am Zhham, the djinn of the urn... uh... hey, how's it goin'?" You sultry new voice carried.

Your mother swallowed hard and looked up in awe. "Djinn... what's a djinn? Are you an angel?"

You let out a hearty, unintentional chuckle. "Uh... no, sorry Mo... Master, I am no angel. I am... uh... do you remember watching the film Aladdin?"

A beam of recognition arrived on her features. "Oh! Like... Robin Williams? A genie!"

You snapped your fingers and pointed as the affirmative, but you weren't about to break out in any musical numbers. "Exactly. Three wishes. No power over death, no wishing for more wishes, and no asking to be turned into a god. Those are the rules." Part of you seemed to rebel against this simplistic instruction... something you would have to verify later. You felt like you weren't alone in your own head.

"Ah... I see. I can't... bring someone else back from the dead?" She asked, looking down at the urn.

You felt a twinge of guilt. Dad is someone she would definitely bring back. You missed him every day... but you were glad it wasn't an option. "Sorry Mo- Sorry, Master, but no."

"I see... three wishes... and almost anything I could want..."

She sat silently contemplating for a moment, leaning against a wooden shop table your step-Dad rarely uses.

"What would... you wish for, Miss Zhham?" Your mother asked thoughtfully.

You were taken aback for a moment, but this was a very Mom question. She normally thought of others before herself.

"Hmm..." You mused, lounging in mid air, looking at your form. "I... want to understand what my situation is, and how to get out of it. Then, maybe using another wish to enact that plan. I didn't exactly... sign up to this." You were able to answer honestly this time. Strange.

She nodded thoughtfully. "No, I imagine it's not something you would want to do for all time, huh? Working only for others and not yourself. This time, though, Zhham, I think I am going to be selfish. And if this works, maybe I will try to help you out with your bind with my second wish?"

You unintentionally chuckled lightly, and the back of your mind you heard an intrusive thought. Doubt.

"Zhham, I wish that I could be my son's age once again, to have another chance at my youth with the knowledge I have now!"

Your jaw dropped at the request. It was probably the most selfish thing you've ever heard your Mother say. She wanted to... live her life on her own? Leave you and your siblings? Your Stepdad... and just go? You felt somewhat hurt. You understood, but...

You hand raised, fingers waiting in a snapping position. This would be a tricky one, you thought.

"Granted," you boomed, and snapped your fingers with a crash of magic.
