Chapter #9

Cashier Fred

"Okay, that'll be $26.49," Fred chimed before politely waiting as the large pig woman swiped her card. "Thank you very much, and have a lovely rest of your day!" he added as he handed her the receipt, the towering, plump morph giggling as she accepted it, moving on for the next to take her place.

Fred had ended up accepting a job working at a local grocery store as a cashier, figuring that the job was mind-numbing and menial enough on its own that it wouldn't make that much of a difference whether he was human or not. He'd just started working a few days ago, and already the ever present sounds of chatter, cart wheels clacking, and registers beeping was becoming just regular background noise to him.

Surprisingly, the clientele were very kind to him. Sure, he did occasionally feel like they were sizing him up, and a few had taken a moment to flirt with him to his slight discomfort, but at the very least he had yet to meet anyone hostile or entitled, which was definitely a relief in retail...

As the line died down for the moment, Fredrick sighed, glancing down at the small podium he had to use to reach the belt properly. It was just tall enough that he couldn't work at it without the boost, though he also noted that it was slightly shorter than it seemed quite a few of the larger morphs were used to. It must be hard having to design architecture with such huge height differences in a society.

He was snapped from a thoughts by the sound of his manager speaking his name. The bottom heavy bunny woman came over and relieved him for his lunch break, which he was all too glad to take. Slipping into the back to sit down, he looked back on the past few days and thought to himself. Things had been slowly getting more normal for him here. There was still a lot he wasn't used to, but the more time he spent around morphs, the less weird it became for him. He still wasn't comfortable with the overt sexual nature a lot of them expressed, especially when directed at him, but aside from that he was happy to be getting used to it.

There was one thing troubling him though: the fact that his mother was living in this city. The fact that she was most likely a morph as well. And the fact that his sister was being very sparse with details about her, claiming to be trying to set up a day to reunite with her and catch up, wanting Fred to be surprised when it happens. The curiosity was making him anxious.

He was cut from his thoughts as another human, a tall, very fit, tanned man wearing an apron over his uniform came in. "Oh hey! Don't think I've seen you around before! Name's Hank, nice to meet ya!" He seemed about the same age as Fred, sitting down nearby with a bright smile on his face. Fred smiled back, returned the greeting, and in no time the two had struck up a conversation. One brief summary of why he moved here plus some small talk later, and his lunch break was up. He said his good byes to Hank, who he'd learned worked in the back as a stocker.

"Alright, see ya around Freddie! Nice meeting ya!"

Fredrick smiled softly to himself as he made his way back up front. This job wasn't so bad.
