Its 4:45PM on Friday. You are just 15 minutes away from a relaxing weekend where you will swing by your favorite takeout restaurant on your way to your quaint apartment and spend the rest of the evening enjoying some video games. Today has been a long day of paperwork and wrapping up the many unfinished tasks of your coworkers who seem to be taking advantage of you. The phone on your desk rings. It was unexpected this late in the day, and you peer at the caller ID.
Lindsay, the CEO, is calling you directly. "This can’t be good." you think to yourself. But then again, you have been working hard this week. Several coworkers have all been unloading their work onto you specifically and telling you how big of a help you've been. Maybe Lindsay wants to give you a well-deserved raise for all of your extra effort recently. You tentatively pick up the phone on the second ring and answer. "H-Hel-llo?"
"Ryan, get in my office. Make it quick, I have to be somewhere in 5." She says, and immediately hangs up. Her tone was cold and indifferent, leaving you to wonder if this was going to be punitive or if it was a good thing.
You get up from your desk, leaving the disarray of papers and excel tabs behind, and take the elevator to the top floor. It’s somewhat intimidating, but you walk past the executives and other employees that dress much nicer and clearly make piles more money than what you could even dream of. The men are all wearing designer suits and the women look equally elegant wearing their dresses and overpriced heels. With a deep breath to collect yourself, you pull on the glass door and step inside the lavish and well decorated office of your beautiful boss. Lindsay is on the phone, but motions for you to walk up to her large mahogany desk where she is sitting She pulls the phone from her face and a voice can be faintly heard as she cups her hand over the bottom of the phone to partially mute her conversation with you..
